Whether it's nostalgia from an older game, the story or art of a newer game, or even a game you played with someone who's no longer with us, what gave you feels? I know a lot of games try to act like they're emotional but for a game to actually elicit a real emotional reaction is still pretty rare, I feel.

For me, it would definitely have to be the ending to Red Dead Redemption. It beautifully tied into the theme of (obviously lol) redemption.
John Marston is a bad man, and there comes a point where the best intentions in the world can't make up for the things you've done and the pain you've caused, and he paid the price he owed. It's a great ending to a great game, and even now I remember the tears in my eyes as I rode as his son to confront Ross, and then that William Elliot Whitmore song starts playing and the credits roll.

I also will always have a soft spot for Resident Evil 5 despite it's flaws, because I played through the whole thing co-op with a good friend of mine who moved away and I rarely see now.

So what games gave you feels, fellow Kiwis?

I would also say Red Dead: Redemption, but for a different reason.

Because it gave a stronger sense of loss unlike other games I've played. John - while optimally sacrificing himself to save his family - dies in such a treacherous and shitty way. Ultimately, when you kill Ross it's bittersweet and unsatisfying; because like Jack you understand that despite avenging John, it will never bring him back.

It's also worth noting that this was in the space of a single game, where most games try to do any character building across multiple titles.

The Walking Dead gave me some feels in the first two episodes. Can't say for the others since I never bought them. Shadow Warrior 2013 gave me feels in the end as Hoji died which does show how things are serious compared to the intro (where Wang's car plays "You got the Touch").

Red Dead Redemption - the ending, The Last of Us - many parts, Final Fantasy X - when Tidus finds out the truth about Yuna's pilgramage and Final Fantasy X-2 - the 1000 Words concert.

Shadow of the Colossus just fills me with tons of feels. Nostalgia, loneliness, sympathy, awe, exhilaration, and feelings that I can't describe. It's a truly special game to me.

Nier. Seriously the entire game, especially ending B. I felt like a complete asshole during the second playthrough.

You save Yonah, but killing the Shadowlord ends up dooming humanity since the Shades are human souls that are supposed to go to the shells. Now the world's fucked. Also the shade child and the robot part, just goddamn. Lastly, I broke down when the original Yonah came to see original Nier thanking him for being there for her and offers a half of her cookie. The feels, man.

Spec Ops: The Line. All of it.

But the ending is such a perfect deconstruction of mental illness, post traumatic stress disorder, and criticism of the relationship of the gamer to the game that it's almost haunting.

What Sephiroth did to Aeris is potatoes to how Roxas had to live his short pseudo-existence. Created as a blank slate, abused by the Organization for his ability to brandish a Keyblade, told to be hollow yet longing for purpose...
...then one of his best friends, Axel, who he trusted, refused to answer anything about who he is, his purpose, why he exists. His other best friend, Xion, starts gradually absorbing Sora's memories and Roxas' power and life so he's eventually forced to defeat and kill her, lest they both fade away and Sora never wakes up. As Xion dies, everyone forgets her because she's wiped from existence and by extension all memories (even Roxas forgot her name, referring to her as simply "she/her") After that shebang, Roxas rightfully becomes so full of grief and rage that his own heart awakens (alongside that of Ventus), enabling his famous Synch Blade ability. With Oathkeeper and Oblivion in hand, Roxas attempts to storm the Castle That Never Was to free Kingdom Hearts, only to be intercepted by Riku, who implicitly and explicitly sees Roxas as a piece of Sora. Roxas, rightly sick and tired of being used as a pawn, lashes out at Riku but is subdued when Riku removes his blindfold and transforms into Ansem, Seeker of Darkness. Then cue the start of the sequel and the longest tutorial level ever, Roxas is in the last week of a simulated summer vacation in Twilight Town, seven days later everything freezes and Axel comes to burst his bubble and try to get him back to the Organization. Roxas defeats Axel and encounters DiZ/Ansem the Wise, then it becomes apparent that even the good guys have seen him as little more than a piece of a puzzle (but to be fair they're trying to put Sora, the Keyblade O.G., back together).

Even his theme song gives me feels, thinking about how fucked his pseudo-life was.

Man Walking Dead Season 1 gave me some serious feels, like that ending was fucking depresing.

Walking Dead 2 just made me feel bored. Mostly because the tricks didn't work and the other series from them I was playing by the time I got around to it (Game of Thrones, Wolf Among Us, etc) did plot related things far better. I definantly felt gutpunched at the end of Episode 1 of GoT.

Also not sure if it counts, but in iRacing I was in a practice session with an actual nascar driver and fucked up and t-boned him at 170mph. I felt a lot of things there, mostly extreme embarrassment.

Playing Chrono Trigger is like reuniting with old friends for me, I have lots of favorite games for various reasons, but none quite evoke that sense of warmth inside me that Chrono Trigger does.
Starting a new game and hearing the seagulls in that opening shot transports me back about 18 years.

since people bring up bioshock infinite.
i'm going to say bioshock 1.
i came into this game without knowing the spoilers (at least the first time i did)
when the sub with Atlas' family got destroyed i was shocked, it just really hit me hard.
which makes the fact that is was fake all the more horrible, i was legit pissed off at fontaine.
