Has anyone experimented with the Vocaloid 5 engine? I'm thinking of getting it but I heard it has some crashing problems and a lot of good plugins were removed. I also see that you can't use Vocaloid 2 singers anymore. On the other hand it looks very simple to use and they made it so that pitch bending is easier...I also liked using Vocalistener.

I wish I could have Kiwi-tier conversations about Vocaloid, but it seems everyone once interested in it here either graduated to suicide or would rather jerk off to feeder-recipient-on-protein-powder porn in 2020. If you do create anything, and it wouldn't dox you, upload it. It truly is the musical movement of the first half of the century.

Atm I do covers of English songs, I want to get better at tuning the English Vocaloids before making original songs. I am upset it's not as popular as it used to be, so many artists of different backgrounds made some good pieces. I remember when the community was BTFO when Miku/Len/Rin got their append voicebanks.

I use BTFO as a way of saying completely shocked/amazed but that's my autism. No, the appends were excellent. Rin's power is everything. People were probably mad that you had to buy it seperately instead of an upgrade but yeah. I've been using a lot of Mew recently, her voice is pretty, low and clear compared to Luka.

That seems to be where you can find the good artists at, I really don't like GHOST's style. Shameless plug, but this was what I was able to with Mew, her voice is EVERYTHING.

I'm not a fan of Vocaloid singing, english ones especially, but if tuned well some Japanese Vocaloids are tolerable

Otherwise I listen to covers by real people, either in English, Japanese, or instrumental. I don't care as long as it sounds nice.

I don't have many encounters with UTAUs, but most of them turn out to be Vocaloid 2 level or worse, only a few seem to be valid competitors with any modern vocaloid voicebanks. Ritsu comes to mind but I haven't listened to her voice in a while.

Vocaloid is fucking expensive. I'd try out UTAU a free software to see if you really like it/think you are going to use it. Otherwise it's a waste of money. No lore really, just a music program. However a lot of the voicebanks are gimmicky, I think there are a few voicebanks that are generally good to use and versatile and sound clean.

I stand corrected. I have found an English UTAU singing that I had to do a double take and check if it was just a person singing.

The pronunciation is insanely good, seems that some UTAU have passed English Vocaloids already. The bank is an Arpasing 5 pitch VCCV bank so it no doubt took ages to be made, but I hope future UTAU creators take this route when making their banks.

I used to listen to Vocaloid all the time when I was a teen. I remember spending a lot of time in the morning going to a Vocaloid blog site looking for new songs and at the top songs of the week on NicoNico. Then one day the blog stopped updating, and I didn't know where else to get new music. It's a shame, because if it kept going, I probably still would be actively part of the noncancerous part of the Vocaloid fan base today. I have like 200 Vocaloid songs from nearly a decade ago still sitting on my computer, I still listen to them time to time.

Recently, I got the Switch rhythm game, and while it's definitely one of the best polished Project Diva games yet, I still wish there were more new or never used before songs. Also, I miss the mode where you could make rooms for the characters and interact with them.

People were bitching about the toon shader for Mega Mix. I don't think it's bad at all, it's certainly a style that sticks out. Future Tone definitely has the variety of new and old songs. I'm just waiting for Gothic and Loneliness for DLC, that's all I pretty much care about. It would be cool if we could get Q in the game, GOD I love that song.

I think it’s designed for only the a e I o u sounds. What’s an oto?

It’s a file that basically configures the voicebank to make the samples work correctly. Editing the oto might help with the choppiness you mentioned earlier?
