That's what I had heard as well, but not from King Simp Derkadumpus. I first heard it from the clan Warlord in 2015, and it seems to be the canon backstory because I saw it repeated by other people as well. There's potentially a bit of autistic digging to be done on it, but it seems OT and Shy herself isn't a cow nor has she ever attracted any true cows that I would think warrant a thread.
BloodEyeRoz was occasionally a bit cow-ish, but for the most part the weirdos around Shy are far more pathetic than they are funny. Roz was the kind of weirdo who donates $1000 on stream and writes Roz X Shy erotic fan fiction. Read it if you dare.

Regarding the cause of Shy's muteness, the most I have to go on is the word of an unreliable narrator by the name of Brooklyn E. Kennedy who claimed to have been in some sort of muteness therapy group alongside Shy. She never confirmed or denied the botched tonsilectomy story, but that really isn't worth much. Shy always did treat Brooklyn as a trusted associate, but that could have been for any number of reasons.
Brooklyn herself told some pretty fantastical tales: child of an affluent SLC Mormon family, mute because of a botched suicide attempt, involuntarily committed as a result for some period of time, brother in the USN, left LDS and was sort-of disowned by her family... I never quite had the time or the interest to try and figure out who Brooklyn Emisse Kennedy was/is, what was true and what wasn't . Sometimes you just listen to the stories and life never requires that you know or care whether they're true.
There was also the persistent rumor that Shy was mute because troon and wanted to keep that a secret, which is possible I guess. The fingernails in particular always seemed like overcompensation to me, but plenty of true and honest ladies have trashy claws. Personally, I doubt the troon theory.
Looking back at Warframe clan politics and all these discord DMs, it really was just the most egregious faggotry.
