I don't see much point in entertaining it anymore to be honest, especially in this day and age where it keeps restructuring itself in increasingly more severe ways to try and keep up with the gains that neurological research is making.

I'm saying that it works, not that it works perfectly. Throwing away a useful tool just because something potentially better may be developed in the next twelve gorillion years is a bad idea.

Believe it or not this is one of the few fields where I'm fairly optimistic about the development time of the technology. We're probably not any further than a few decades at most from properly mapping the brain, particuarly since we have reliable computer models that can chart out the complexities of neural architecture. This isn't a hypothetical sci-fi technology, its development is nigh and gains more momentum every day.
