Donald Trump opposes Marijuana legalization in the USA, and is republican. So now I’m starting to wonder, was Marijuana legalization honestly the reason why Donald Trump lost the election in 2020? Back in March 2020 I said that if Donald Trump legalized Marijuana he would absolutely win re-election In the USA. But for some real foolish reason Donald Trump refused to legalize Marijuana. And now I honestly begin to wonder if that’s what cost him the election.

I'm quite convinced if he managed to actually pull out of conflicts like he promised, maybe build 70%+ of the border wall, he'd already be a lot more convincing. All America seemed to have got was drama and empty words (not very new in politics, but never the less always disappointing.)

Knowing some history is usually good to put things into context. Trump wasn't a member of the party as far as I know, nor he didn't climb a political ladder. He didn't had any office prior to this.
(Which is a kind of a mistake if we take Trump on face value, politics and big business have similarities but differences as well...)

As I mentioned in another thread, I believe it was Trump's inability to make good on most of his promises that made the biggest difference. He came in under the premise that he could get more done because he wasn't a career politician. That didn't happen. Even though he was stuck with a split congress for the last two years, he still didn't get much done in the first two years. TBF, some of that was from Republicans infighting with each other about stuff. In the end, though, the fact remains most of his promises remained partially or fully undelivered -- something the media was able to take advantage of for this year's election.

It also seemed like he failed to grasp that being president is different than being the CEO of one's own company. The president generally can't act unilaterally like a CEO can. When Congress can't or won't pass what the president wants, there's very few options to sidestep that; even executive orders can still be challenged and dismissed by the courts as we saw regularly over the past 4 years.

Also, if I recall, Trump was largely hands off towards marijuana. He might not have worked to legalize it, but he didn't push for Federal enforcement of marijuana-related drug laws, either. So I doubt it was a much of a factor -- especially since more states have legalized marijuana for either or both of medical and recreational use. However, the illegality at the Federal level creates issues when it comes to preparing income tax returns. So, it would make sense to have some sort of Federal policy in place as opposed to piecemeal state and local regulation.
