Wasteland 2 was really good and the third is looking pretty cool.

Hopefully Wasteland 3 isn't as buggy as 2 was.

On a side note thank god the post apocalyptic genre is having a nice rejuvenation with Metro Exodus, Wasteland 3, and STALKER 2 (not technically post apocalyptic but it has the feel).
I'm mostly curious about how exactly co-op will work. It's a very strange addition for a CRPG, and it sounds like you're really opening yourself up to getting kicked in the dick by your partner's actions. Hopefully player actions will still significantly affect the narrative, but unless you're carefully coordinating with a friend then I guess you'd better be content to roll with whatever happens.

Yeah co-op seems like it would be really interesting in a game like this, especially since from what I gathered from the trailer you and your buddy don't need to be together all the time. Unfortunately for me however, I have no friends that would buy and play this game with me.

I didn't finish 2 on account of having other games taking my attention, but I did enjoy what I've played of it.

I'll certainly give 3 a shot thanks to Gamepass, should be an interesting experience.

I learned about Wasteland in the early 2000s, and it was a seriously fun game that me and my brother played for a long time on a old pentium 75 laptop. it is a masterpiece of RPG gameplay. Blasting my way through Quartz and the Temple of Blood were the most memorable for me.

I feel Larian mastered it in Divinity Original Sin and its sequel. Of course, Wasteland 3 is not being made by Larian.

Similar to Baldur's Gate 2, I suspect. Host is the party leader, every client controls a custom-made character. In the absence of a client the control of their character falls back to the host. Made non-combat gameplay a lot smoother, but combat and leaving an area often sucked.

I've been trying to get around to Wasteland 2 since I hear nothing but good and I've gone so far as to launch it and play a few minutes much earlier this year... I'll get ot it eventually.
Is Wasteland 1 still easy to jump into as far as older titles go and is it worth playing or is 2 objectively better?

Wasteland 1 is one of those games that is great to watch and be nostalgic over, and its every bit as good as you would expect, but unless its a game you played back in the day its not too easy to get into. The first system shock is easier to pick up and play than the first wasteland imho, but watching a good lp of it would suffice. Id recomend gamehoarder or LGR.

WL1 is definitely worth playing, just don't expect a multimedia experience. If you approach it as a DnD experience it becomes much more immersive. It did get a modernized port when WL2 was released, so it is easy to get in.

Thanks, seems like it's worth a try and I decide on my own. I have no problem stepping back in time with older games. Though for System Shock 1 the controls were such a pain in the ass I didn't play it on DOS but that's been the only exception so far. If there wasn't an alternative I'd have just sucked it up, got through med-bay without enhanced edition.

I can't do lets plays so one day I'll see how I like it.

Wasteland 2 is a buggy crashy mess, especially on Linux, but goddamn do I love it.

Tentatively excited for 3 - the last game I was similarly excited about was Phoenix Point, and well...

I was excited about Phoenix Point until they pulled that EGS exclusive bullshit and then made it pulling teeth to get a fucking refund over it.

To me PP smelled like a shitshow from day 1 but i played it regardless. After maybe 20-30 missions i have very strong opinions on it, strong enough to stop playing it, in fact.

As for Wasteland 3 i think ripping off XCOM more is a good idea (they just have to do it right), but i'm really worried about the story.
There seems to be a big focus on this cringeworthy humor, i just hope that if anything else fails the story would be at least ignorable.
Co-op is a really good idea though and i hope they make this double crossing thing more than just a gimmick or something you do every time.

Never got around to playing 2 but 3 looks pretty promising. If anything at least the OST will be great based on what I've heard.

I played Wasteland 2, and the impression I got was that it was pretty much just for fans of the first, since you're sorta starting off en media res and things take a while to get you up to speed. It also dragged on, and I ended up looking at the Wiki to see if it got much better and... I just noped out entirely when I saw who the antagonist was. Talk about a rehash of the first game, FFS. That said, this does look much different, so I think I'll be giving it a closer look.

Fucking love the Wasteland series. Enjoyed 1 &2, thoroughly. Actually backed Wasteland 3's campaign back in 2016, got the signed collector's edition. It was a 250 well spent, I got more than I was expecting. I was in the beta, I enjoyed it a lot, hopefully the rest of the game holds up just as well. All I want to do is join the Gippers on their crusade against the Red menace in Colorado.
