All of these tweets are reminding of the time when tumblr part of Steven Universe fandom bitched and complained about an artist from tumblr( I forgot their name) for making some of the Steven Universe characters white and thin. Bc of that this artist tried to kill/ killed themselves.
This is a perfect representation of a toxic fanbase which so many weebs fall into. It's like how with the recent remake of Voltron on Netflix. One of the characters is gay but it's never really brought up. You never see them kiss or act romantic or whatever. You know, just like these things should be when they have no basis on the plot. But the more unhinged fans went absolutely apeshit over this. How the creators were being homophobic for not showing him pounding ass or being "gay" all the time. And let's not forget the fact that the shippers among them went as far as to send death threats to the creators, voice actors and the wives of these people because they wanted two of the main male characters to bang.

Fucking death threats over a cartoon that has been remade like five times. I swear these people are beyond help.

It's not just weebs that are unhinged tho. Anime fans in japan are pretty crazy too. A man in japan burned down an animation studio, killed 36 people and some were injuried so badly they became disabled because he thought they have stolen his idea - characters buying MEAT. He already hated KyoAni because his ideas were rejected several times

And then there is the whole Neon Genesis Evangelion disaster. Hideako Anno was bombarded with death threats and hateful mails to the point he considered suicide.

Even worse are the idol fans or the unholy combination of anime idol fans. The hardcore ones are actually deranged in their obsession over idols or VA for their anime idol waifus. I still remember the drama over a game I play (GBF) having its first Love Live collab and the shitfest that was. For a bit of background there'd been multiple collabs with IM@S with the girls getting units in game and I've never heard anything but excited fans of IM@S getting their favorite girls in game. Another key point is that like a lot of gacha you can swap between a female or male stand in your MC with Gran or Djeeta, purely cosmetic in most cases outside of like valentines or white day.

Well, when the Love Live collab was announced instead of excited LL fans there was a bunch of them voicing the upset at the fact that "their idols" might interact with guys from GBF:

In response to the backlash the game actually gave a prompt when the event started that the player was "encouraged" to swap from Gran to Djeeta for "story reasons" even when there really isn't one to some how get the fans to shut up.

Thankfully, the playerbase mocked them relentlessly for it and there hasn't been much controversy over the later collabs. Did get some funny memes though that were spread around to piss off the LL fans.

Yeah but this was concerning weebs and not otaku and hikikomori. You don't need to remind me of how obsessive some Japanese fans are. It's like how Idol singers or those in an idol group are not allowed to date or to be seen in public with a man. The reason? They need to put on not only a wholesome image but their fans need to be able to dream about them someday meeting and getting together with them.

But I'll admit I didn't follow the Japanese anime scene and their legions of insane fans when I was there and even less so now.

Why are they even bringing up shit that was resolved months ago? I swear these people are unpleasable, he already gave in to the mob, apologized and promised to do more research yet that still wasn't enough for these people because he wasn't completely kissing their asses.

Shit like this is why artists in general are reluctant to draw natives or any minority really.

It's really funny to see them fume about an artist drawing native or minority stuff and then moan about there not being enough representation in art. Why would any artist bother dealing with the headache of having these twitter harpies descend on them?

On a second glance, this thread has gone the opposite of what it intended.

I have heard some stuff about the Love Live and IM@S fans clashing with each other, i.e. LL fans joking about how IM@S is the inferior idol franchise, but I do wonder where the origin of those in-fighting began? This makes it sound like the IM@S fans are chill, while it makes the LL fans look uptight and over-protective for some reason. Would it also have anything to do with how IIRC, most of the IM@S games weren't given English localizations (I'm not sure if the IM@S anime was available with English subtitles or dubbed in English), while the LL games did?

I can only make guesses as I'm not really a member of either community that deeply, but I think some of it might be due to what you mentioned. IM@S has a fairly large fanbase that has been going strong for 10 years at this point, but it's largely non-english due to lack of localization, having said that there are some English IM@S fans that (from what I've seen) are also pretty chill.

It's a much higher bar to get into the franchise because practically nothing is translated and a lot of the merchandising or live events only exist in Japan (or some other parts of Asia). From looking at some online discussion of LL fans talking about the issue most of them pointed towards the lack of translations, age of the series, amount of games, and large number of cast members as making IM@S too daunting to get into over LL.

I'd also say the craziness might come a bit from how the series are set up world wise. In LL guys basically don't exist after a certain age while in IM@S there's a bunch of guys including the Producer player stand in. Age of the characters might play a role too.

The funny part is these same "muh cultural appropriation" loons will praise something like this redesign of Captain America where he's a Native American.

Even though it's an ugly ass design that looks like a collection of Native American stereotypes, apparently it's okay since the co-writer is Injun or something.

That also reminded me of this tweet, where someone has an Idolm@ster-themed itasha car, but the biggest standout part is that a Rin Hoshizora plush (who is from Love Live) is attached to the rear racing tow hook, so that driver "drags" Rin around:

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be some form of dark humor, or someone that has a real disturbing hate boner for a competitor.

Do weaboos glorify the less savory aspects of Japan, like the loneliness, justice system, overworking to the end, etc, etc.?
Or they just brush it aside?
The question is why would they? They never focus on the negative aspects of it, just the positive and inaccurate ones they've misinterpreted.

And while the things you've mentioned exist, it's not endemic to daily life there. I'll be the first to admit I loved my time there. I had a great job, good friends, belonged to several organizations, had a rich social life and a good work / life balance. Was my experience typical of life in Japan? Not necessarily but it wasn't all that outside of the norm either. No country is perfect no matter who says they all have their good parts and bad parts. But weebs are only interested in the superficial aspects of Japan and think life there is like it is in animu.
