What causes a LOLcow? -

✓ - Exotic/uncommon interests, habits, and behaviors, often to the point of appearing satirical, parodic, or otherwise acted.
✓ - Obsessive and intensive interest in a singular area. Activities relating to this interest often produced in an extraordinarily poor fashion.
✓ - Overweight and/or obese; exhibits poor hygiene and self-care.
✓ - Questionable sense of fashion.
✓ - Below average to dull intelligence.
✓ - Poor parenting.
✓ - Being literally worse than Hitler, Stalin, and Mao combined.

Just a lack of self awareness and higher cognition really. Though that's not something that makes a lolcow since it's something all of us have overlooked a few times.
In a lolcow's case, naivite and a need for attention is also there. Like I don't think "obesity" is something that is attributed to all lolcows. Rika is a skinny tranny who shits and throws it at the walls. But Rika constantly comes back and demands attention for doing it.

Autism also helps immensely.
I think the most important ingredient is arrogance and self-delusion. You can't really laugh at someone who is just crazy and naive.
There are many people in the world that are potential lolcow material, but they don't put their antics on the internet. Exposure is key.
A LOLcow is created from Unwarranted Self-Importance combined with an inability to accept criticism. How those two factors came to be in a given person are unimportant.
Obsessing.

since just because autism isn't the sole factor of being a lolcow, it can be also be how you were raised as a kid.

Lack of self awareness for one thing, also like Katsu said, odd interests, mix that with too much internet, and lack of real socialization and world experience, and lots of EGO, and you have the recipe for a LOLCOW. Ego is important for Lowcows too, because that is the spark that sets off the fire, because of their ego they will go, "Youtube? Deviantart? Yes! time to show the world how awesome I am!!!" If my parents let me make a YouTube account, when I was in late middle school to early high school, I could assure you, I would be a LoLcow myself.
