What concerts have you been to? -

Just curious to see how many shows and concerts everyone here has been to and who you've seen.

Here's my list so far:

- Billy Joel
- Elton John
- Ringo Star and his All-Star Band
- Bob Dylan
- Styx
- REO Speedwagon
- They Might Be Giants (twice)
- Third Eye Blind
- Thin Lizzy
- Weird Al Yankovic
- Tran Siberian Orchestra (twice)

- And... I had a girlfriend years ago who had a strange obsession with Hanson that pleaded me to take her to one of their shows in Boston.

"Oh they've grown up. They're kinda sound like the Eagles now!"

They did not sound like the Eagles, they sounded like three men far too old to be singing "Mmmbop". It was hands down the worst thing my money has ever been spent on. :(

How about you? Who have you seen?

My first concert was Backstreet Boys when I was ~9 or 10.

As far as what I consider to be "real" concert experiences, I have been to three Rammstein concerts: two during their LIFAD tour, and one during their Made in Germany tour. The last two had coincidentally fallen either on or very close to my birthday.

I have also seen Roger Waters's The Wall concert in 2012, which I think was the best experience I have had in a concert yet. It was also a few days after my birthday. Funny how that works out.

I've seen Alice Cooper three times. Second time was when Econoline Crush got back together and opened for him. Third time was when he was touring with Rob Zombie and it was one of the greatest concerts ever. First half of the area was a mosh pit and the back half was seats. I was first row by the aisle. Towards the end I see security with flash lights running towards us and thought to myself "One of thoses guys looks like Rob Zomb-HOLY SHIT THAT'S ROB ZOMBIE AND HE'S RUNNING RIGHT TOWARDS US!" Rob Zombie ran up and down the aisle and stopped and stood beside me for a few seconds (I'm 5'3" and he was only about an inch or two taller than me BTW).

My best friend unfortunatly likes KISS and I got dragged to one of their concerts, but Buckcherry opened for them so it wasn't to bad.

Last year I saw the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra preform "Danny Elfman's music from the films of Tim Burton" and it was amazing, although the choir was terrible.

I used to live in a punk house so I'm not going to list every single random band that played our basement but here are notable bands I've seen at other places:

Dinosaur Jr
Built to Spill
The Melvins
Mission of Burma
Dillinger 4
Less than Jake
Lemuria (three times)
Naked Raygun
The Ravonettes
Some band with Frank Black in it
Jello Biafra on his spoken word tour
Mustard Plug
The Flatliners
Knapsack
probably some other bands that I can't remember because *yawn*

II don't know if this counts but I've seen Cats and Phantom of the Opera on Broadway as well as the Radio City Music Hall Christmas show.... and when I was in Middle School I saw Sebastian Bach play Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar and he was one hell of a Jesus.

A lot. I saw Blue Öyster Cult at a county fair for my first concert. Skindred was my first metal show. Other than that (and some of these were the same show):

Mastodon twice (always awesome)
August Burns Red maybe 3 times (and the crowd sucks more each time)
Converge (one of my favorite shows ever)
Killswitch Engage
Lamb of God
Black Dahlia Murder twice (once was absolutely my favorite show)
Whitechapel (music was awesome, crowd sucked)
Lacuna Coil
Attack Attack! (sucked but in a fun way)
Hundredth (sucked)
Texas in July before they sucked and at least once after
Stick to your Guns twice
Mississippi Rail Co. (awesome music, but not a very active show)
Richmond Folk Fest with a hell of a lot of artists, twice
Periphery twice
Darkest Hour
Parkway Drive
OK Go (also at a county fair)
Mogwai
the Starscape festival, I think they had Lights there and a bunch of dubstep artists

I know there are a bunch of others but I can't remember them.

I saw Rookiez is Punk'd in June at AnimeNEXT. It was technically my first concert experience (went to a Dream Street one when I was little), and I loved it. By the time it was over I was a sweaty mess. I got their autographs and a picture with them, so it was a good night.

I really wanna go to "actual" concerts, but none of my friends are into the same type of music as me.

Worst opening bands that people may have heard of:
Steel Panther's set was so awful I felt embarrassed for them. I played games on my phone because I couldn't even bear to watch them onstage. Tesla is terrible (and I've had to endure them 3 times). The Bug sucks.

I tried going to see Run the Jewels last week, but the tickets sold out before I got paid. I tried going anyway just in case a scalper or two were there, but I didn't get into the show. I did, however, get to catch a glimpse of Jamie (El-P) from his tour bus. He was outside having a smoke and talking to Mike (Killer Mike) who was still inside the bus (I recognized his voice). I would have called out to them, but I didn't want to be "That guy".

In no particular order, off the top of my head, and not counting cover/local bands. Mind you some of these were in the same day or weekend at festivals. I also used to practically live at a venue when I worked a better paying job and the head bartender and I were pretty much best friends.

In Flames (my first show)
Streetlight Manifesto
Voodoo Glow Skulls
mu330
Tool (x2)
My Bloody Valentine
Beck (x2)
Rush
Lucero (x2) and Ben Nichols solo (x1)
Ariel Pink
Roger Waters
The Brian Jonestown Massacre (x2)
Ween (x3)
Nas
The Naked and Famous
Bonobo
OutKast
The Verve
Weezer
The Flaming Lips (briefly got to talk to the lead singer)
Iggy and the Stooges
Megadeth
Explosions in the Sky
B52s
DJ Shadow
Ziggy Marley
Paul Van Dyke
The Octopus Project (more times than I can count)
Peelander-Z (also more times than I can count)
The Black Angels
Black Moth Super Rainbow
The Strokes
Dengue Fever
The Mountain Goats (x2)
Mogwai
Jet
They Might be Giants
Radiohead
Ratatat
thenewno2
Willie Nelson

I also have a strong appreciation of Vietnamese and Khmer Rock (see Dengue Fever). There's a Vietnamese Temple by my house that an old band called CBC Band from the Viet Nam war era played once. Thought I'd mention them too.

I envy everyone who has seen the Gorillaz. I was supposed to see them back in 2010 I think and came down with the Flu the day before the show.

May 5-Slash & Myles Kennedy
May 30-The Who
June 29-Rush
July 16-Foo Fighters (w/Royal Blood)
July 22-U2

I'm considering also getting tickets for Santana's show on August 11, as well as tickets for The Who's show in Barclays on the 28th.

Were they playing with or without Dennis DeYoung?
