I will never forget my first concert. I don't remember the group we saw, or where it was. I was like 6 at the time and my dad took me to see it (my mother insists we saw the Gonzo Dog Band, but I've never been able to verify this).

At the concert, the entire band came out on stage wearing WWII canvas gas masks, and the bassist bends over and a massive green cloud discharges from his rear. As the smoke settles around their feet, they started rocking out.

For a six year old, this marked up there as the coolest thing I had ever fucking seen.

Pink Floyd. Korn. They might be giants. Rammstein. Lots of shitty cover bands.
I'm actually hoping to see our patron saints, Weën someday. I liked them before I even became one.

I've seen Starfucker six times. I quite like them.

First concert I went to was Leftover Crack when I was 15, was pretty intense and I could swear that place was well over capacity. Saw The Dresden Dolls shortly after that which I still remember fondly. The Flaming Lips were another highlight, but probably because if you combine them live with acid it's a perfect pairing. It'd probably take me too long to remember the rest, I don't really go to too many shows now because they make me feel old.

I remember going to see Iron Maiden in april of 2016(Book of Souls tour) as a birthday present. They still kick ass to this day and they had put on quite the show. When they played The Trooper, Bruce Dickinson sang the song while wearing a British Army Red Coat uniform while flying the union jack. It was really cool when they played Number of the beast and never held back on the pyrotechnics.

Best b-day present ever.

I'm on three Metalachi concerts now, I just love them but the last show was at a shit venue. The place I saw them first changed their location to a building with really weird shape that was terrible for concerts, fucking garbage acoustics, and a stage that barely left the band any room to move. Their violinist tripped on a massive cable that had nowhere else to go but right in her way. This venue is supposed to be opening up a second location with more space so I really hope Metalachi plays there next time they come to town.

Just last night I got to see Behemoth, Lamb of God, and Slayer and it was fucking sick.
I live in beautiful Californian wine country so this venue has that fancy wine country look and is surrounded by fields of grapes, so it's weird as hell for a metal show like this. They have a wine bar in case you want to get a glass of Pinot Grigio to go with your Polish black metal. Behemoth was fucking sick and there was a small pit breaking out immediatly. My dad and I both really wished we had got in on the pit tickets. I turn into a flailing retard at concerts so the pit is an appropriate place for that to happen, but there are plenty of reasons that 120 pound ladies like myself shouldn't go flinging themselves into the pit. Lamb of God was when things really started to get crazy, the band has so much great energy and that got the pit really going. When Slayer hit the stage, the mosh pit had morphed into a swirling miasma of death and holy tits that was badass. Slayer absolutly killed it, it was amazing. Four hour show overall, very awesome.

I have a few:

Newsboys (2007?) - Earliest concert I can remember going to. Though they were religious(Christians), Their songs are good.

Iron Maiden(April 2016) - Big fan of them. Birthday present from my pa. Excellent concert and I lol'd at the part when they were performing 'The Trooper' and Bruce Dickinson, in his usual attire for performing said song live, draped the union jack over Nicko McBrain as a joke.

Fitz and The Tantrums - (Late Fall/Early Winter 2016, I think) - Went there with my folks. Never really cared for power pop. In the case of Fitz and The Tantrums, they were the exception and I rather enjoyed listening to the songs.

Anthrax/Killswitch Engaged - (April 2017) Another early birthday present for a metal head. Tons of headbanging ensued and sick riffs howled through the night. Ended just an hour shy of my birthday.

Dragonforce - (July 2017) Friend of mine told me they were coming to Detroit and we went to see them. They were straight up amazing and I was surprised when they started playing stuff like Green Hill Zone. Amazing concert, will go see them again.

And this was Marc Hudson(I think) wearing a DOOM t-shirt:

A few days ago I've been to the concert by the pipa (Chinese lute) virtuoso Wu Man. I knew it would be an extraordinary performance but I didn't expect to be so galvanized by the first few notes. Wu started the concert, as usual, by playing the Qing-dynasty tune "Flutes and Drums at Sunset" (much better known as "Spring River and Flowerly Moonlight", this tune is the most popular Chinese melody ever). As in the case of folk music, there is plenty of rooms for instant creativity, and Wu shaped the piece beautifully, making an unexpected, liltingly light-hearted turn towards the end. The rest of the concert was even more fascinating, including newer Chinese compositions, an exploration of the music of Kazakhstan, and a demonstration of an intriguing Tang-dynasty fragment which she then elaborated on. The first half of the concert ended with an high-energy mash-up of Chinese tune that she described as "pipa rock'n'roll".

Wu was joined by a student orchestra in the second half in Lou Harrison's Pipa Concerto. I don't find the composition very successful but the performance was dedicated, and an opportunity to hear such a rare piece in concert is always to be treasured. All in all, the most memorable concert I have been to this year so far.

You don't have to take my word for it: the whole concert was recorded on Youtube.

I saw Ween two nights in a row this past month and it was no joke hands down the best experience of my life. It was super neat because I got really into them while they were broken up and it wasn't looking like they'd ever get back together after Gener's very public and brutal meltdown on stage so actually getting to see them make incredible music together was very emotional and special for me. They're incredible live; every song is it's own unique experience because they get super weird and experimental and have a lot of fun just seeing what they can create with the instruments. They played Light Me Up live for the first time in years and I was so excited I thought I'd hyperventilate. I got to meet Kirk Miller, their sound guy and unsung hero who's been in the game with them for the last 30 years and narrowly escaped making a total fool of myself as I was just starting to come up on acid (it's weird meeting your heroes on acid).

Close second for best concert was Neutral Mil k Hotel a few years ago, i travelled far for that one to their hometown in Athens. Same deal - didn't think they'd ever get back together after Jeff Mangum pretty much lost his shit, the tickets sold out in about five seconds. They brought about 40 instruments on stage and used every single one of them, and each song sounded like it was being played straight off the album. I cried like a child during Oh Comely.

Just saw Youssou N'Dour in concert. Not a good show. He is old and has his band do most of the job. And I got an infection of this earworm:

Would love to see Rise Against, Beck, OK GO, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, and The Bravery. System of a Down would be cool too.
