What do you think Barb herself was like in the past? -

Sorry if this is been done before, but it's been ages since I've been to the forums due to some issues at college.

All we know about her past is from CHris, and we all know how reliable his sources can be.

What little information from her is that she used to be an office worker and she's the fifth child of her eight siblings. Because of Chris' indifference, we don't know about her relationship to her friends (If she have any, colleagues may count) and family besides Harriet and Corrina. The latter who selfishly died on Chris' birthday no less!

I'm wondering what caused her mental instability, like her hording and why she is so petty. Speaking of hording, she doesn't seem to have any hobby besides sitting on her blistered ass and watch TV eating Q-sands.

Also, should we have a separate Barb forum?

As social mores changed-namely, that women don't "need" men and (most recently) that respect is based on merit, not being elderly-she stayed exactly the same.

The issue isn't so much that she slept around; it's that she doesn't take ownership of it.

Essentially, Barb's mindset is entirely founded on 1950s/60s suburban paranoia. She can't own up to her sexual proclivities or-say-own up that Chris has autism because what would the neighbors think? Little realizing that people will think anyway, and trying to cover what she wants to hide only makes it more apparent.

According to the relevant article, they were married on 7 June 1980. Chris was born on 24 February 1982, meaning he was conceived somewhere around May 1981.

That's almost a year though; not quite a shotgun-wedding which is how I liked to picture it.

...Well, to be fair, the earliest pictures we have of Barb show her to be not totally unfortunate-looking. Not my cup of tea, mind you, but Bob's interest was understandable.

For the larger issues, though:

^^ Sounds about right. Honestly, we don't know much about Barb pre-Bob, but literally everything we do know is very unflattering to her as an individual. She had a child who never knew his father's identity, even after catching his mother outright lying about it. Numerous men came and went throughout Cole's life (this by itself isn't shameful, but it doesn't mesh well with Cole's paternal frustration). She has family who don't reach out to her, neighbors who don't care about her, and although she was employed for years, did not maintain friendships with anyone after leaving.

Any one of these things could be looked over individually, but taken as whole they paint a picture of Barb's pre-Bob years as being very unhappy and very unfulfilled. Based on how she met Bob, and how they continued to go out regularly afterward, it's easy to speculate that Barb's primary interest most of her life was to seek attention, usually with some combination of sex and booze. It's jumping to conclusions, but I'd say it's not too much of a jump.

There's no solid reference to Barb ever having a meaningful association with a female. I'd really be interested in seeing what one of Barb's female co-workers, or Bob's female friends, thought of her.
