We must have talked about this before.

I imagine they took a quick look at it and said "That's nice, dear" or something like that.

They are/were pretty supportive, but they didn't really understand it or give much of a fuck. Barb, at least, hated the sub-episodes and forced Chris to stop doing them. Both of them freaked out at the Rule 34.

I remembered that I read somewhere that Barb just didn't like the Chris-related specials.

I think there was a prank call where Bob had no idea what a Sonichu was.

And Barb knew enough about the comics to tell Chris to stop writing the egocentric sub-episodes (orders he completely misinterpreted).

She told him to stop writing sub-episodes about his embarrasingly empty personal life and equally embarrasing run-ins with the law. Most would interpret that to mean "don't get so autobiographical." Chris interpreted it as "OK, I'll stop making sub-episodes and make my life the main story!"

I think that Bob had some inkling about it, and said in one of the prank calls that "Christian made the Sonichu" or something along those lines. I always imagined that he bought into, a least a little bit, of Chris's delusion that Sonichu was popular on the internet.

Wasn't it Barb who "theorised" that Chris was a "creative genius"?
They both apparently believed Nintendo wanted to make the Sonichu game as well. When you consider Chris was brought up with this level of delusion it's no wonder he thinks Sonichu should be a billion dollar empire.

Thing is, Borb raised a son who couldn't speak till he was 7 and still can't toilet himself as an adult so they were probably amazed that he could hold a fucking pen (badly) let alone draw something up to the level of a nine year old.

I wonder if it was both or just Barb. I really can't see Bob being that stupid as to believe Nintendo would be making a game from his retarded son's crappy drawings.

That video implied that Borb were highly skeptical of Chris' claim of Nintendo being interested in making a Sonichu game. His general mood in the vid, being on the verge of crying, and Freudian slip about his parents being "proud" of him also suggests that one or both of them may have even berated him for being so gullible as to believe Nintendo was interested in making a game of his comic.

I think they just treated him like any 8 year old who presented them with a drawing and did what most parents or adults do by patting him on the head and tell him how good his drawing is to humor him.

Is that true? I always assumed that that was more of his bullshit, like talking within weeks of his birth.

Been discussed to hell and back already. They probably took a quick look and said a short compliment, instead of actually giving his work genuine criticism, but they cant, specifically barb, because she thinks he's an extra special god child who can do no wrong.

I personally have my doubts, for two reasons. One, Chris said he was given Go-Bots if he correctly spoke, and Go-Bots were off the market by then. Two, I can't imagine any school would mainstream a child who was both mute AND autistic.

Either Chris could talk, but was a bit on the quiet side, or the story is complete bullshit.

If Chris is to be believed (bear with me), at one point, some doctor theorized that he would never be able to fully (much less properly) function.

I imagine Barb just smiles and nods like one would with a six year old, and Bob probably couldn't give less of a shit. Any instance they've claimed they didn't know about Sonichu they were likely just having a senior moment.

Chris was seven in 1989, Go-Bots were made until 1987. Chris says he read both Go-Bots and Transformers packages. He also gives two ages right after each other for his de-muting; five and seven. I take this to mean he started vocalizing at five (the year Go-Bots were discontinued) and it took him until age seven to be at the level of a normal child (relatively speaking).

As for "mainstreaming", it's pretty common to put even severely retarded kids in with the normal ones for large parts of the day. It saves the school money and it supposedly teaches kids empathy. There was a very low verbal kid in a lot of my classes in elementary up until Grade 5. Borb insisted on normalcy. Chris probably sat in the back and sucked his thumb while dreaming of robots while those around him learned important life skills like penmanship and not drawing sexual pictures of your friends.
