What email service provides the best balance between non-cucked and normie-friendliness? -

Let's face it, Google is cracking down on who can use its Google Accounts, not merely for Youtube, but other services such as gmail? In light of this, it is obviously unsafe to have, for example, banking info tied to a gmail account.
And it's not going to stop with Google.

On the other hand, it likely wouldn't do to use one of the fine lolcowmail, etc products with your bank, as that may raise other sorts of red flags to anyone who notices where your account is hosted and assumes you're some sort of stalker (or worse).

What do we use to have fun and stay safe with our serious bigboy internet needs, Kiwis?

Yandex, protonmail

Despite all the shit they get, Comcast is pretty stable. They've only dinged me once in regards to torrenting and that was due to what I mainly torrent and hubris.
He's talking about email, not ISP.

i was looking into this a bit too, but since i already had the account i started by migrating my most important accounts to my outlook email. there are probably better choices if you want security etc but it's good enough for now.

i did make a protonmail account but i'm not willing to pay for premium (at this point in my life anyway) and didn't like that the free version forces a "Sent from ProtonMail" or whatever signature on you.

I like Startmail.
It's not free, but I kind of like paying for the service and thereby having a contract with them so they can't just shut down my account for "reasons".
Also great security with the ability to encrypt messages with a passphrase as well as up to 10 custom aliases and unlimited temporary aliases.
That's what I used to sign up for this place, and I'm glad I did with the hack and all.

in your opinion, what are the cons to their software? i'm looking into Tutanota now and am curious if it's worth making an account.
The search feature is extremely limited unless you pay. You don't get any POP3/IMAP (they claim they're too encrypted to do it or something). The mobile app is super slow when it comes to checking your email, it takes like a good 10 seconds to login to your account every time. Good side is they support F-Droid and put effort into not using Google's push notification infrastructure for their mobile app so you don't require GApps.

alright, thanks for the response! i'm strongly considering Tutanote since i'd rather not manually remove the ProtonMail signature every time i send an email (it's understandable but annoying). that's if i decide to switch off outlook, anyway.

Proton seems nice enough. The real problem is that normans got used to getting a good service for "free" because they didn't know they were being milked.
I'd avoid, for now:

To be honest Im glad that they had to go through the court to get it. Thats far better than the company just handing it over.

Proton raised concerns when is was shown they route DDOS protection through Radware. Radware was founded by an ex-member of Unit 8200, basically the IDF's NSA, and the founder is connected with other companies that make straight up malware/spyware. Proton has stated that Radware has no access to the data, but concerns over Zisapel and how the IDF/Mossad actively use Israeli companies as fronts skeeved people out. I am not tech and have no idea if their refutation of Radware concerns holds any water. I'd actually be interested in a commentary on Protonmail's explanation that I, as a luddite, could understand if someone wants to do one. Unfortunately the alternative I chose was dropped from active development.
