So I made this joking post in TSIC about the migrant caravan, but now that I'm seeing more news and rethinking it, I want to ask. I'm really puzzled by this. What in the world are the Hondurans in the migrant Caravan thinking?

How did they get the idea? Didn't they know that the previous "invasion" was repelled without hassle? And besides, even if (super big if) they make it to the US, what do they think? They'll all have jobs as farmers and maids and barkeeps suddenly? With the economy how it is? I just can't see a way the decision to crowd up IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PANDEMIC and go for the US had any rational thought put behind it, no matter how bad things were in your home country. What do you guys think? Was it just idiocy plus desesperation?

P.S. For the paranoid, don't worry about them reaching the US they are already getting stopped in Guatemala and Mexico probably won't allow them in

It depends on person to person most of the time. Some people are threatened and know legal channels take too long so by the time they get asylum they will be six feet under, some have no jobs or opportunities and America seems like the most stable around, while a lot are probably women and LGBT folk that want to leave the oppressive Latin American states. Honduras ever since the last election has been plagued with scandals of political corruption, social instability, ect. the. Addition of COVID exasperating this already unstable system is probably the biggest factor in it all.

Maybe they've heard about this and decided to try their luck.

This is also a factor. They want to get in while they have the chance and gtfo out of their countries because of the conditions.

They're new job could be to take over from the coyotes in guiding these migrants at the US border.

My sympathy for Med crossers who drown is limited. That 'Pope' Francis slobbers over them, particularly if they are young black males, says enough. They are nearly always economic migrants who want to bypass legal processes to leave somewhere poor but safe. Many too are Moslems for whom colonizing the land of the kuffar is imperative. They nearly all get rescued by coastguard or those supposed rescue charities like SOS Mediterranée.

I think you're getting your wires crossed on how many of them are purely economic migrants. Sub Saharan Africa is a shit show of civil wars, slow burn genocides, lawlessness and tribal strife. It's what you get when post colonial societies collapse in on themselves because whichever devolved government was put in place by the withdrawing colonists is usually not the one actually equipped to run the country. People don't leave a place of safety, pay exorbitant fees (sometimes by indenturing themselves) to people smugglers and knowingly risk death, disease, exploitation and abuse on the vague promise of a better life. Sometimes they're lied to by people smugglers who give them false impressions about what awaits them in Europe, sometimes they're there against their will, being trafficked for heinous reasons, there are estimated to be thousands of slaves in the UK at the moment. In 2019 alone over 5000 people in the UK were prosecuted for offences relating to modern slavery which is an increase of 51% on 2018 demonstrating that tougher action to break up these slavery rings is having an effect. It's very easy for walking pieces of shit like Nigel Farage to gripe about immigrants whilst bobbing around in a boat on the Channel, getting in the way of the RNLI (Coastguard yanks) because when he 'rescues' people and returns them to France, the scumbags who took their money and shoved them in an inflatable canoe and said "England's over there" are nowhere to be found.
