Simple and fast way to join voice calls with friends to play videogames, and there’s text chat too as an added bonus. Some games and modding communities have discords so it’s nice to lurk them so you can get patch notes and updates. Discord isn’t useful for any other purpose

Discord was a psyop so they viral marketed the fuck out of it

It's supposed to be for raiding guilds in World of Warcraft and other online games and was free to sell marketing data on who's playing what. But they overdelivered on features and not only did normies start using it, so did trannies, furries and other freaks to host communities in part or whole and the Discord staffers get to mine and sell a shitton more than they could've hoped for.

It turns out having to pay for server space on Teamspeak or Ventrilo was a perk and not a drawback. Not everybody deserves to be or should be a moderator or administrator of any sort of online space.
