I dunno, I think it's possible to be cringy while knowing you're fucking up. Like, imagine one of those TV show where a guy is trying to talk to a girl he likes, makes an idiot out of himself, and beats himself up afterwards. He was fully aware that his behavior was awkward, but it was still cringe. Maybe I'm splitting hairs and/or generating cringe here, but you get my point.

Cringe is something to do with being out of place, but it's hard to put a finger on it.

I cringe when people use the word "cringe" incorrectly, which is all the time since it's a hot meme. Then I keep cringing because I'm using the word incorrectly, which causes more cringing, which then puts me into a loop of awkwardness that only ends when I pass out from exhaustion.

Anyway, I cringe when I'm riding in the passenger seat and the person driving slams on their breaks.

For me it's knowing how it's going to end badly. When I know something is going to come off as horribly cheesy or horrifying that's when I really feel like it's really cringey. However there are different levels of cringe in my opinion. Something small as a child not knowing something is relatively low on the scale, but when an adult acts really immature that's when it really gets bad.
