Xennial is the term for the people who are either on the tail end of the Late Generation X group or at the very front of the Early Millennial group, born in the very late 70's or very early 80's. They're one of those generational overlap groups, we see a similar trend with the Late Millennials and Early Zoomers born in the 90's.

I was born in 1993, so I'm firmly on the late end of the Millennials.

I grew up rural as fuck so I claim Gen X even though I'm on the boundary. Latchkey kid. No helicopter parenting or cell phones or early internet access. We were on our own growing up so we became very independent. You could go anywhere and do anything you wanted as long as you were back home by dinner time. They couldn't stop you. Which is Gen X thing.

With Millennials their parents shoved a camera up their ass when they could walk and didn't trust them to do anything alone in meatspace without adult supervision until they were like 30.

Within just a couple years you went from the least monitored kids to ever exist to the most. That is the difference.
