I think it is too early to say that the movement has been destroyed, but one of the causes of imho is certainly the fact of setting goals that are increasingly unattainable and unrealistic. I did a bit of activism (not for the gay community but these environments intersect) when i was younger and more idealistic and this is one of the things that led me to give up everything.

I came out as gay in 1982... I knew quite a few gay "activists" Back then, I observed we had no need for their shenanigans since the Civil rights act was amended to include us.

It started out as a movement asking for reasonable things like tolerance and legal equality.
It then changed focus more towards acceptance (not just tolerance) which in turn then changed from a movement asking for basic human rights to a movement focused on demanding (not asking or requesting, but actually demanding) praise and pandering for their lifestyle and things started to become more and more unreasonable. The tune changed from "please accept or at least tolerate us for who we are" to "if you don't sing hyms to our praise, you're a shitlord".

The general population missed the point where this movement went down the shitter and started pushing entirely unacceptable things and making entirely unreasonable demands.
The fact that many companies push for this pronoun bullshit to accomodate a homeopathic portion of the population is a clear sign to me that this went too far.
Society as a whole can't bend over backwards to accomodate the whims and fancies of a group of people that will forever find reasons to complain. It's a tiny fraction of a fraction of society demanding unreasonable amounts of attention and pandering and it's treated as the worst kind of hatecrime to question the validity of this mode of operation. It's surreal.

Doesn't help that many equal rights movement in the history of mankind were large on the "same rights" thing, but never on the "same responsibilities" thing. Think about all the poorly qualified doctors butchering the genitalia of mentally unstable people, causing untold, irreversible damage... and they get praised for their Mengele-tier bullshit.
Meanwhile, any psychological help is frowned upon cause it is insinuated that trying to help these people cope with their situation on a mental level before they are sent off to the butcher, is seen as a hatecrime.

Or, to put it bluntly: Even assuming that these people are beautiful butterflies on the inside that need a dicksnip to become who they truly are, to express themselves and all that jazz... I mean, you'd think going through all their life beforehand in the wrong bodytype would fuck them up mentally and that they'd need counsel to deal with the trauma in addition to the chopjob, but nope. Merely suggesting this will net you accusations of being a bigot.

I am all in favor of people's rights to put themselves under the knife of a barely skilled Dr. to have a medically unnecessary surgery based on false impressions about the effects... I am a liberal at heart and anyone's rights to express themselves should not be hindered as long as they don't step on other people's rights to express themselves.

You are correct, the gay activists wanted more ...even after we got legal rights. They pushed for "acceptance". We got acceptance by 1990. It's not 100% acceptance. They want to legally force 100% of the world to accept us. That's never gonna happen.
