I've had "friends" that decided to latch onto the special snowflake/transtrender bandwagon, and it is the worst feeling in the world to call them out on it--that is if you constantly feel regret and/or guilt rather often. As long as you keep a level head when you talk to them, you should be okay. If they start to chimp out on you, that's on them.
