Repetition. The only thing that saved marijan was interaction and even then it started to become a game to try and get him to do something new.

When a lolcow is so clearly devoid of wrongdoing that mocking them for their silliness becomes pure sadism, this ruins the experience.
It opens a different avenue where you can actually join in and laugh with the person instead of at them. That kind of person isn't a lolcow at all at that point, though.
It's actually a good thing to be "spoiled" as a lolcow and redeemed as a human.
The obvious lolcow spoiling, though, would be Len Shaner. Weens ruined him. Not as a person because he was and is a complete piece of shit, but as a source of amusement, because most of the shit that happened after a certain point just wasn't funny. I would be hard pressed to explain to a noob why this guy was funny in the heyday of his thread.

I believe that...that "wake up calls", hitting rock bottom and being forced to face up to their flaws doesn't make lol-cows "shape up" and start improving. They can't.
I've seen a lot of lol-cows have their layers of delusion stripped away and lose every last defender/enabler and put in a situation where I thought... they'll be forced to look at themselves honestly now, and start trying to change. But they don't. It just pushes down their spirit and they become meek zombies.
I'm not sure what the solution is. Maybe it's gentle..they need gentle prodding mixed with positive friendship. Like say if Chris is hanging out in the gay scene and they are accepting and kind to him but tell him strongly when he acts the fool.

Trying to force the lulz ruins many of them. There are usually long gaps when our lolcows do little that is noteworthy and trying to fill those gaps with forced content tends to induce lolcow fatigue.
I find there's a certain level of extremity beyond which I can't find them funny. For instance, Nick Bate I couldn't really laugh at due to the fact that he was an actual child molester - someone was really suffering and he was getting his jollies. I can't laugh at Gail Cord Schuler because she's so mentally ill that it's more sad than funny.
I don't know, I'm probably being a complete hypocrite here - plenty of the lolcows I do laugh at are abusive and wrong in the head, just not to the same extent.

I think you summed it up best, really. When people get too obsessed with a cow and start taking the thread seriously (the constant "OMFG how HORRIFYING" posts in the Slaton thread, Chris and Phil's 10,000 cookie cutter a-logs, etc) is when the milk goes sour. "Notice me, sempai" posts tend to ruin a cow's visit with very few exceptions, as well.
Unlike the milk drying up, however, sour milk is an easily rectifiable problem so long as those who notice it make an effort to further actual discussion and notify the mods should things start to go tits up.

i'm glad to see all these different reasons coming from different perspectives, and i agree that all of them are capable of making people lose interest based on their preferences and the severity of the problem. i also have this to add:

the part that was really repugnant was (somehow) not his nudes, but the constant barrage of clueless newcomers to the scene who hadn't been there from the start, had no exposure to the lolcow community at large, and all of them made threads that asked obvious questions or made embarrassingly stupid weening plans. it was this innocuous, natural behavior that became too much to manage, and it led community managers to tear their fucking hair out by the roots in a misguided attempt at quelling it; even here, every so often, we'll get a really swell thread from a summerfag or a newcomer, and it isn't a DEFCON 5 problem for the Farms because, unlike some other places, our attitude isn't that we're the arbiters of what people should and should not consider funny.
it's when people cross those fine lines at either extreme, the "clueless dipshit who needs to lurk moar" line and the "Kengle" line, that the funny is threatened for everybody in the audience. some people are really Type A or something, and they just aren't content with watching and gossiping. their greatest entertainment comes from poking the tard, gently or violently, one time or persistently. out of all the people who do that, the list of successes is the minority (ABL, Marvin, Jace). if there was a strict, zero-tolerance rule posted at the door that said "DO NOT TOUCH THE ANIMALS," we'd miss out on neat acts like theirs, and so there's an amount of vigilance involved in keeping the show going, and the fine lines require constant revision over time. it is the worst internet job i can imagine.

Once they get used to the trolling they become kinda boring. Chibi's a good example of this, he tried to embrace the jokes about him but he ended up just getting sad when he couldn't ever stream without 8chan fucking with him and now all he does is tweet infrequently about how he wishes he had friends.

Yeah, I couldn't laugh at someone like Nick Bate or even Vade or PK/Glip, honestly. It gets to a point where I'd rather just see them get hoisted by their own petard (Nick at least did, not so much Vade or PK/Glip) Dobson used to be a pretty good lolcow for milking, but he's since reached a whole other level of pathetic that's made milking him less fun and more irritating IMHO.
And there's people who are, overall, mostly harmless but largely eccentric, like DisneyFan01. People like her are weird and have weird tastes, and maybe they're not exactly good at what they do, but they've never caused any huge internet drama or done something worthy. I like observing weird people, but there's a considerable difference between someone like DF01 and Bryce Cherry: one is honest-to-God innocent (so to speak) and means no harm; the other is just mentally unhinged in their eccentricities, full stop.
But people like DSP or even Brianna Wu? Those two are lolcows whose milk will never fully stop coming, partially because there really isn't a nasty beyond-the-pale undercurrent to them. They're obnoxious, self-absorbed, compulsive/pathological liars, and never learn from their mistakes because they see themselves as the victim. Works for me.
right, exactly. and i mean i'm not going to come here and demand that people not talk about taint diarrhea, or about bob's clothes or barb's corpse, talking about things is fine, it's great. hooray for talking, hooray for forums. not every post will entertain every person, just as not every cow entertains every person. it's a great time to be alive for fans of taint diarrhea, boy howdy, and god bless them.
but there's that thin line. and it's hard to be the arbiter of that thin line. there's a degree of absurdity when the question you have to ask is "how much taint diarrhea is enough?" and even more absurdity when you have to knuckle down and propose solutions to the taint diarrhea epidemic. i do not envy the people in that position.
This was part of Chris' downfall as a lolcow, I think. Initially he'd chimp out at the smallest thing, and it was kinda funny, but after the 10,000 "ur gay & assburgers" post even he got used to it, and now he just ignores everyone.
This is another point that stops me from following a lolcow - there are thousands of crap artists and vloggers online, and lots of strange people, but if they're just doing their thing without harming or upsetting anyone, not being creepy or unpleasant, then I don't really see that as funny.
