I've tried a few different ones, but the brand I've found works the best is Firsthand Supply. They have three products: All Purpose Pomade, Clay Pomade, and Texturizing Clay. The Texturizing Clay sucks, so avoid that. The finish is good, but it's a huge hassle to get out of the container. The other two are both good, my favourite of the two being the Clay Pomade. Both pomades scoop out of the container real easy, and they're considered "unorthodox water based," with no harsh chemicals. The main difference is that the Clay Pomade feels lees "heavy" on my head, if that makes sense, but the hold is still pretty strong. The company makes 1oz travel sizes, so I'd recommend trying those out before committing to a full container if it looks...

Depends on your sort of hair and what you want to do with it? also do you want grease or waterbased?
I have thick hair that curls so I cant really speak on wanting it not stiff since when mine is not stiff it just fucks up the style.

I really like Reuzel for oil and pretty much everything from Suavetco for waterbased.
Been awhile since I used it but King brown has a really nice smell and was pretty light, cock grease is super strong for waterbased, Goon Grease is way too much for my thick hair its super strong but doesnt go in easy at all. Uppercuts Clay sucks ass but their waterbased is a shitter Suavetco. There is also a brand called Dapper Dan that is clearly a hehe funny reference but actually was good and smelt really nice like coffee.

also cum

I use Murray´s Superior Hair Dressing Pomade. But it takes a couple of showers to wash out, also it is very hard. Probably not the best for beginners.
Do you want it shiny or not?
