What's a TRUE 10/10 game? -

So we all know TLOU 2 managed to get 10/10 from the totally unbiased gaming publications, but what are games that really deserve it, if any even exist?

In my eyes, a 10/10 game has to at least:

• have uninterrupted fantastic gameplay, with no iffy levels, segments, or bosses
• have no bad glitches
• have no awkward controls
• have no iffy mechanics

Off the top of my head, the only games I can think of that are consistently good, have perfect controls, and don't have any mediocre parts are Super Meat Boy, Ninja Gaiden Black, and God of War II, but even those could be nostalgia filter (except for Super Meat Boy, which I replayed to 100% a year or two ago). Even Super Mario 64 had Hazy Maze Cave.

What's the point though. Even if a game is perfect mechanically it can still suck because if you don't get attached to the characters.

Imo nothing, even my favorite games can never be a true 10/10 in my eyes.

The biggest reason being my standards for game balance, even in single player games to some extent. I don't like being "broken" unless I've somehow reached such a skill level (be it execution or planning) to deserve breaking the game to whatever extent the game allows. Most games I play never do that it usually has some dumb combo, skill, class, equipment, literally anything that the developers either ignored how broken it was or felt was fine to exist. That can take me out of a " this game is amazing!" phase pretty quick, but not enough for me to hate the game itself just more of a criticism that affects my whole experience enough that I can't see a video game as "perfect 10/10" worthy.

I like fairly complicated bordering on convoluted combat systems with a lot of moving parts and/or options, like Xenoblade 2 or Divinity Original Sin 2 for somewhat recent examples, yet I also like reasonable levels of balance so all those moving parts feel equally relevant to some extent. I've just come to accept is a gaming development nightmare that will probably never happen especially without constant balance patches like in multiplayer games. Their will always be some broken combo that wins everything, though I think you can keep it from curb stomping the entire game into the floor by just pressing 2 buttons sort of bad which is how I'd determine if a game is say an 8 or a 6 on a true 1-10 scale where 5 is an average.

Just on a gameplay level I am too willing to criticize or notice flaws in a game for the types of genres I like, so I can never feel perfectly satisfied and I'm too autistic to just say "close enough, 10/10". I can still have great experiences and can recommend games I like, but the magic fades eventually and I just start nitpicking way too much for my own good.

I think there are games that are 10/10 despite all the flaws they may have (in my personal opinion).

One such game is Morrowind. Yeah, it's a broken mess. The graphics are dated by today's standards. It crashes easily if you do something wrong, and some quests are meh. But despite all of this, in my eyes, it's a 10/10 masterpiece.

The lore is something else, I've never spent so many hours reading the ingame books and walk away with a comfy feeling (Dragon Age Origins comes close, but in the end, it feels like reading a Wikipedia page). The music is by far the best in the series.

I just really love Morrowind, there's not much to say.

Again, it all comes down to personal preference and opinion.

This would be like asking "what is the perfect aircraft?" A Spitfire's not perfect, ignoring that the design itself had flaws sure it could do well against Bf 109's, however it ain't gonna do that hot against a MiG-21. A B-52 might be great at taking out ships, but it ain't gonna be so great for transporting 400 passengers to London. However if you were to argue either of them aren't great because of those reasons you'd be considering a fucking moron, because context is key. Mario 64 wasn't defined by its story, doesn't mean that same standard should be applied to MGS2. Ultimately games are too diverse to conveniently say that there's a perfect way of making a game. If you're gonna do that you'd at least want to go by genre or some other narrowing factor.

Honestly, no game is completely 100% perfect, so giving one a 10/10 for me personally simply comes down to how well it executed its gameplay and the like.

So for me, games such as Breath of the Wild, Nier Automata, Metal Gear Solid 2, Devil May Cry 3, Doom, Resident Evil 4, and System Shock 2 would be 10/10s, but again, that's just me, and I have no doubt that others feel differently

In my opinion there's no such thing as a perfect game, I really liked the Witcher trilogy, but I still found myself getting a little bored with the Witcher 3 at the very end of the game. I liked GTA 5, but the same issue exists there, Doom, similar problem, etc. Nothing is perfect, in other words.

Stuff like Payday / GTA Heists / (Maybe R6 Seige???) from what I've heard of them sound similar, but really I don't know.
That style of objective based gameplay has always been more popular as PVE than PVP which means FPS doesn't have much purchase there.
