I don't use Something Awful but why is it hated?
It used to be the community that made fun of furries and other weird degenerates throughout the internet. Now they're the weird degenerates. Like just a week or so ago I ran into this fucking post:I don't use Something Awful but why is it hated?
They used to like to make fun of people. Back when Let's Plays were first becoming a thing in 2006-2007, practically every "Let's Play" video on Youtube was camcorder shit, Unregistered Hypercam 2, or occasionally both with terrible commentary or none at all. The Something Awful group "Retsupurae" would take those videos and reupload them with their own commentary brutally mocking the Let's Player, which was hilarious and pissed off a lot of people. In general they mocked everything they came across; back in 2010-2011 when bronies were becoming a thing a fuckton of goons became bronies, then got banned, then the remaining goons set about ruthlessly mocking bronies until all the bronies trooned out and it wasn't okay to mock them anymore.I haven't heard anything about Something Awful in years, but back in the day people hated SA because they were faggots and Lowtax charged people money to use his forum. Then Lowtax got beat up by a German filmmaker, Uwe Boll, and after that I think they all turned into troons or something.
SA gave us funny memes, like "gently caress", and some classic threads, like that one thread about the Bee Movie where the autistic bee scientist lady nitpicked Bee Movie for a month. But all good things must pass.
This post mentions things that are pretty instrumental to why SA was such a shithole. They used to like to make fun of people. Goons were also known for being the villains in a fuckton of online games. The "BMW" group became infamous for invading Rust servers en masse and laying waste to everything. Similar shit happened with EVE Online ("We're not here to play EVE; we're here to play Goons In Space) and so on. Now they've rebranded as being woke and sensitive but nobody wants them around anyway.
Oh so like Tumblr and Twitter? It used to be the community that made fun of furries and other weird degenerates throughout the internet. Now they're the weird degenerates. Like just a week or so ago I ran into this fucking post:

Sort of. Only you have to pay $10 to post, it's more heavily moderated, and there's no character limit.Oh so like Tumblr and Twitter?

Back in the early days of the forum, there was some crazy person called Triangle Man who kept evading every single ban including IP bans and shit. Lowtax eventually instituted a $10 registration fee just to keep Triangle Man out. It unexpectedly made him a fuckton of money. Why do you have to pay $10 to post?
Do you have archives of those classic threads?I haven't heard anything about Something Awful in years, but back in the day people hated SA because they were faggots and Lowtax charged people money to use his forum.
