Mortal Kombat Trilogy. My brother and I would play our cousin's copy of it; I remember not being bothered by the fatalities or brutalities.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Although the first one I ever tried out was Call of Duty 4 while at a friend's house.

It was Doom,

First one on console was probably Conker's Bad Fur Day.
Conker may have been my first actual ESRB rated M game as well. I played Mortal Kombat on the SNES but the SNES version was toned down so idr if it was M or not.
Conker holds a fond place in my heart but it doesn't hold up very well.

Mortal Kombat, and I believe it was in an arcade. Unless they weren't allowed to publish the mature version it in an arcade, then I guess that doesn't count? If that's the case, then it would technically be GTA. Can't recall which one, though.

Otherwise, and completely off-topic, the latest M rated game I played was Ai: The Somnium Files. The most amusing M rated game I played is Conception 2: Children of The Seven Stars, or whatever it's called, because if the jingle "Touch my heart, just wanna make love to you" doesn't scream M rated then the accompanying visuals of female women in sensual poses and the reminder that all they're doing is hand holding will.

Before the ESRB became a thing, I guess it was Mortal Kombat (the SNES port.) Otherwise it was probably Turok: Dinosaur Hunter.

Ah yes, Mortal Kombat. My mom bought it for us and thought the blood looked fake like a horror movie.

It was pretty much impossible to keep your kids from that game anyway. Back then arcade machines were everywhere.

Played Eternal Darkness when I was a tiny little baby, I got spooked and stopped playing like 5 minutes in when the roman guy gets turned into a skeleton.

Eternal Darkness was the first horror game I completed even though it scared the shit out of me, it was a struggle to finish it but finish it I did.

If you thought that early part was bad I can't imagine what you'd have thought of the bathtub scene which literally left me shaking the first time I saw it.

Half-Life. Loved every second of it. I still have fond memories of getting stuck in Blast Pit and not being able to figure out what to do.

Then my dad found out how the fan worked and blew my fucking mind.

Probably not my actual first M rated game, but for sure the one I remember buying and finishing the earliest is American McGee's Alice. $10 at Walmart and I had to get my mom to tell the cashier that I was allowed to buy it. Played the hell out of it and still love the series. AM is in the works on another Alice game and I hope it delivers. It certainly looks promising and shouldn't get dropped like his planned Oz game did, as he has gotten quite a following once again. Between nostalgia fags and now his wife is designing lovely merch, we should hopefully see the new game soon.

I believe it was Halo 2.

Compared to other games then and now, the Halo games seem relatively tame, so I'm not sure where the M rating came from.
Something something dudes ass in the map editor causing esrb to recall all copies of the game and led to it being m rated
