Unless whatever is being done directly affects you or somebody you love/care about, don't snitch. The only situation where you should care then is if it's your job to, like you're a cop or a manager. Otherwise that's called being a petty asshole. Examples of when I feel it may be acceptable versus when it may not be:

You work with a very small team, say five people. There's a lot of work but with everybody there you all manage just fine. Suddenly, one of your coworkers starts flaking out. Showing up late, taking long lunches, disappearing for extended periods of time- now their work is something you are DIRECTLY responsible for despite being paid the same wage as if they were there; you and the other people on your team are now completely swamped and putting in extra effort to compensate. This is an acceptable (imo) situation to snitch on them and tell the boss man that they're fucking up. Because now it's directly affecting you in a significant way.

For an example on when it's not okay to snitch- let's say you work in the same team. That same person is very reliable this time, but they come in high every single day without fail. That said, they don't smell like weed and they only smoke it in the privacy of their own home before coming in. It also has no impact on their job performance, they perform just as well high as they do sober. Now this is not something you are responsible for since it doesn't impact you in any way, telling the manager on them is you being a piece of shit. Leave them alone and if the manager finds out, let it be on their own accord.

Seeing as another thread erupted in autism, I figured I'd create a thread to talk about Snitching.

So what do you think?

Depends on what you're snitching out, why, what your relationship is to the person you're snitching out, whether you owed them some kind of moral duty not to do that, whether you're getting a personal advantage out of it, etc.

For instance, if I see a murder, and I report it, that's not "snitching." That's just reporting a crime. Considering the neighborhood, who the murderer is, etc. it might be an incredibly dangerous thing to do, but it isn't snitching.

Now, say I deal drugs, though. I snitch out some former associate because they're dealing in my territory and it seems easier to rat them out and get rid of them that way than just murder them. That's snitching. That's just making a police report on someone because it's personally advantageous. That's shitty behavior. You're a scumbag if you do that kind of shit. It's dishonorable. Even if you're already a criminal, you just took a step down on the ladder of humanity into just real scumbag territory.

Then there's stuff in the middle. Say you're in the same drug dealer situation, but you're looking at life in prison and you have kids and a family. You can turn in some other scumbag and maybe get out in a couple years. You're still a snitch, there, and surely someone you ratted out would have good cause to want you dead, but was it a moral choice? Maybe.

It's really a sliding scale. "Snitching" can be anything from a moral duty to the cowardly act of a backstabbing piece of shit.

It depends on what was done and what’s at stake. Context is key. Let’s take a completely hypothetical example wherein a female superior in your workplace tells you you’re ignorant to certain crime statistics due to your white male privilege, for instance. Would reporting her for the comment be snitching? Absolutely.

I fucking hate snitches, they are among one of the worst types of people, up there with real domestic abusers, snitching makes you a shitty person no matter what the crime is, even if you snitch out someone for say, a murder or a rape, yeah you've put a shitty person in prison, but you're still a faggot, since you told someone and got someone in prison for it.

Depends on what I'm seeing. If while out on my morning constitutional I see a group of young whippersnappers smoking lucifer's arugula behind the skatepark while they should be at home doing their homework, I will pretend not to have seen them.
They might have to share a bit with me in exchange for silence, but my lips are sealed.

I don't have a problem with snitching to protect oneself or one's own legitimate interests.

I remember being punched in the face out of the blue by someone, who then told me that I better not "snitch". I mean, what the fuck? He wanted all the benefits of the code (or whatever you call it) with no downsides. Fuck him. Although in that case I still didn't snitch, for my own reasons.
