JK Rowling, far and away.
She infused an entire generation with pseudo-pagan magical thinking bullshit and then came back for an encore involving tranny race swaps.

She gets extra points for being a stereotypical rich white middle aged female pearl clutcher.

Whedon because his style has infected lots of TV and film, whereas fiction was already dead by the time Harry Potter came around.
Agreed. I have already made my opinions on Whedon and the fact his "LOLsnark-LOLreference-LOLsnark" schtick has infested fucking everything known, but with Rowling her story was so freaking generic and shallow beyond the aesthetics of stuff that there wasnt really anything to imitate

But JK was the first person to really push the MC who isnt a character so the audience could fill themselves into it in a big way

I'm going to have to say Rowling.

Whedon has several popular things that he was solely responsible for, yet I somehow manage to be able to mostly avoid them in my daily life.

Rowling had one single hit, and I cannot escape references to it. I have had to accept that I will be assaulted with sights of Harry Potter craft projects, merchandise, and car window stickers for the rest of my life.

I once heard it said that Whedon’s dialogue just sounds like someone who thinks they’re clever having a conversation with themselves.

I’m was tempted to go team Rowling with this, but I think Whedon’s style has helped make people in general think that snark that is slightly clever on the surface is actually intelligence. This has had a measurable impact on how people use snark on Twitter to win good boy points while talking about things that are obsentiably serious.

Anyway the poll let me vote for both so I fucking did.

I'm going with Rowling. The woman literally wrote the equivalent of the Bible for left wing youth. The number times I heard left wing kids and young adults unironically compare every situation they're in to her books and look to her characters for moral guidance in just the last half decade alone makes me lose what little hope I may have had left for any sane parts of the Left recovering it anytime in the next 20 years. These were the same types of people telling the christians they needed to 'read another book 20 years ago' thinking it was the cleverest quip no matter how many times they said it...

I think Whedon imitators are more of the problem than Whedon himself. Firefly was good because it contrasted from traditional scifi universes - it was blue collar in a very rural americana sense while still acknowledging globalism as a positive and negative force. If made today, it'd be called pro-Trump; even though its real message is folk are just folk regardless of when and where. The constant banter is annoying now that everyone does it, but at the time it was another good contrast from overly self-serious epics like Star Trek and Star Wars. The cast was constantly the underdogs, and they hid the stress with bravado and humor; but underneath each character was beaten and almost broken. That's absent in a lot of imitators and even modern Whedon, who just write wise ass mary sues.

Rowling, on the other hand, cannot be imitated because she's as shallow as a puddle.

Just Kidding Rowling actually has some weight on her words so when she says some dumb shit it actually has some push to it. Josh Whedon is just some loser honestly, who lets his day be ruined by shit talk from the Internet. I mean at least Rowling has some balls Whedon is just a fag.

J.K. Rowling is a benign tumor. Annoying, hate the 30 year old children who clearly read nothing else citing real world problems are like Harry Potter, but since I read books written for adults by functional-ish adults, she doesn't bother me that much.

I find Whedon to be by far more apocalyptic for his medium because now most mainstream movies have his traits and unlike books I can't escape it as easily. Every character is 'witty', everything has layers of irony, jokes jokes jokes. He helped usher in this age of films being glorified amusement park rides and it's so tiresome.
