When did extreme fetishes start becoming normal? -

I pin it entirely on Rule 34 becoming a normie meme. People pushed that meme really fucking hard, and I remember there were whole communities just dedicated to making porn of a franchise if someone suggested it and nobody could find any floating around. It was almost like a cult after a certain point.

Only a handful of years after that did you start to see places like DeviantArt overflowing with transformation fetishes, transgender shit, feet, diaperscat and all of the other plagues that have beset the modern internet. After being inundated with the likes of Tetris porn and full-color prints of Spongebob Squarepants fucking Squidward up the ass people's tolerance for weirdness went way up, and a lot of stuff that was considered fringe only a few years prior was just allowed to fester.

I still wonder about the people who pushed that shit as hard as they fucking could. It got to the point where people would prepare whole porfolios of shit to spam threads and discussion boards with. It carried over into reality too, I remember quite a few people I knew couldn't shut up about "how funny" it was even face to face. Its like they let the joke take over their personality. There's trolling and then there's just plain psychosis. Its telling that a lot of those people ended up forming the core of the Brony plague. I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of those people went on to troon out.

I'd say ... about 15 years ago. that is when forums and other platforms like deviantart and Tumblr became mainstream and easily accessible.
people who until recently would have been afraid to leave their homes for fear of ridicule finally had a place to express themselves publicly.
continued exposure to pornographic content (in a broad sense) did the rest.

Somewhat related I guess, but it's always made me wonder how people who practise extreme fetishes developed them, and even became 'experienced' in their chosen fetish before the internet took off, or when it was a novelty (suggesting no form of instigation where it concerned their perversion.)

Certainly, unlimited porn online of every fetish imaginable is definitely responsible for the acquisition and propagation of many people's kinks and fetishes. I know for a fact my own sex life and back catalogue of experiences would be more vanilla had I never jerked it to anything I found online.

Shit like anal fisting, scat porn, asphyxiation play, hanging, needling and blood play - how in the actual fuck do people even get into those things without some sort of outside influence? Mental illness? Psychopathy? I have no idea.

How are foot fetishes gross or in the sense "extreme"? It's just feet. As long as they're small and taken care of, I can understand why some guys think they're an attractive part of the body.

At least compared to BDSM or trannies, I don't think such basic body parts fall into the "extreme" category
Thats how it starts, motherfucker

Every single fetish should be considered "extreme", especially after you see how the degenerate fetishists interact with people

If you have "ironic" fetishes youre a closet degenerate

The Marquis de Sade's example seems prototypical in that respect. A man with money and leisure, uninterested in conventional morality, desensitized to ordinary forms of pleasure, and who had no issues treating women as disposable objects. Why not "test drive" your latest perversions on prostitutes or your maids, in that case?
Transgression for its own sake plays a role too - the Marquis (or at least his characters) enjoyed blaspheming during sexual encounters. The whole "rule 34" thing today is just a more systematic version of this.

In central Europe, sexual deviancy relating to the more common fetishes (especially bdsm) has not been perceived as particularly shocking for quite a while (I'm somewhat surprised anyone considers handcuffs "extreme" )

I feel that this might be more of a development in the states - though frankly, I don't meet many (actually none) people irl who broadcast their fetishes as part of their identity in any manner.

Is this something you commonly come across IRL? Because it's always been a thing on the net. There's just more people on the internet than ever and consequently, more sexual deviancy.

Demoralizated population... when people are entirely about pleasure and avoid all manner of honor, responsibility or other persuits of virtue.... how could you even construct an argument against all manners of pornography?

When decency is demonized and deviancy is celebrated.... why be surprised that deviancy growths? It's like an untended garden, it has a good chance of doing so when left unattended.

2007.

The introduction of smartphones/tablets etc etc allowed for easy access to porn in private locations (the bathroom/the bedroom)
Instead of having to use a laptop or, god forbid, a desktop, it was now extremely easy to sit on the toilet, pull out your phone, go to pornhub, rub one out, flush it all down, delete your browser history and then go on with your day.

Porn is addictive like drugs, but its free. Once it has gotten its hooks in a person it slowly worsens and worsens, and the porn consumer is looking for more and more titillating stuff. 2007 just allowed porn use to grow exponentially.

The Internet response nailed the when, but the mechanism is the hedonic treadmill (hedonic homeostatic dysregulation) - i.e., short term wins give us short term happiness (dopamine hit), but we quickly return to a baseline. We're all dopamine addicts now. Internet gives us access to the hits we need, but as time goes on the baseline changes and we need something a little more. Rinse and repeat.

The only way to stop it is to get off the treadmill, but most don't even know they're on it.
