I am a liberal always have been and likely always will be. I was never a full blown sjw but I didn't fully break away until after the election of Trump when it became clear to me that the progressive stack and intersectionality are unsustainable.

It really was an impossible all inclusive coalition between Hillary Clinton's feminism and Saudi Arabia, that's kind of like Justin Trudeau in a nutshell. It won't work the left liberal needs to take more risk for something that materially benefits the ordinary person and society in a real way and stop relying on identity politics and virtue, cheap moralization etc.. Without substance its just minor tweaks around the edges at best and a bone to throw here and there. edit (sorry don't mean personally, the major parties). Why must they attempt to appear woke and radical but fundamentally change nothing, can't end the drug war or do much of consequence to actually help poor and marginalized people.

For me it was the introduction of 'Latinx' It continues to strike me as nothing more than blatant cultural imperialism in an actual sense. The native words are 'offensive' and inadequate, so a foreign word is imposed. Latinx in supposed to be the gender neutral word, but it already exists in Spanish, but people refuse to use the native word. They must impose their culture on the other.

Before TDS took off, I almost took identity politics seriously. I was worried about things like "sexualization" and "cultural appropriation". But ever since TDS, I've come to see the cult of woke as it is: a manipulative lying tyrannical cult that sees the world through "problem glasses", tries to lump people as "communities" of "marginalized groups" or "oppressors", and is fairly contrary to human nature.

I never liked the progressive ideology to begin with. I knew early on that these types of people will only get worse as they become more emboldened, seeing how vapid it really was when I was in high school. It seemed so bizarre that the same people who completely loathed religion, (Christianity) also held their beliefs with religious fervor to the point of belligerent behavior. All the people who followed this mindset preached but never practice, much like what they criticized about religion.
For me, I had begun defending things that I simply don't agree with in the name of protecting the feelings of people I didn't really care about in the first place. In other words, I had begun virtue signaling.
That isn't sustainable for anyone that isn't a total social parasite, so I pretty quickly backed down and began considering alternatives.

Even today with the stop asian hate thing going on currently they have people white knighting for them. Instead of addressing the current problem they bring up events that happened around a hundred years ago as proof of Asian hate and pinning it on other groups, for example the Torreón massacre being brought up.
So what about all those videos of them instigating fights, beating on little old asian grannies and store clerks? Fake. Doctored images, photoshop and cgi, ect.

I think people have a need for religion, and Westerners (and Middle Easterners) can have a need for fervent religion. So with religion removed by modern "society", something has to fill that emptiness, be it consumerism, identity politics, or atheism as a religion. It's like nature abhorring a vacuum.
The closest I've been to an SJW was around 2013 - 2015 when my school started teaching critical race theory when I was 14 and ended up buying into all their falsehoods. It was only until 2016 when I realized about the groups known as Social Justice Warriors who get offended by everything and wanted to ruin internet and society as a whole and then I took a gander at all the things that represent them and was interested on gathering information from the opposition to these people. Now I'm pretty much the antithesis of these losers and learned their roots and how they came to be.
That's exactly what it is. Many people enjoy the experience of being in a religion, and in absence of religion, people will seek out similar behavioral patterns. So they push to secularize holidays, create irreligious rituals, bond over shared consumption patterns and debate ideology instead of theology.

Just being gay and not liberal was enough for some of my former friends to end their friendship with me. I’m not the biggest Trump fan but because I don’t think he’s Super Mega Turbo Hitler 3000 either that was enough for them. I think what tipped me over from seeing (proto-)SJWs as "well-intentioned wooly-headed liberals" to seeing them as a plague was watching communities and personalities online succumb to the rot. For me it was science people who presumably picked up the mind-virus from atheist/skeptic spheres (Atheism+ and so on). Because it was a new phenomenon and people didn't know better yet, you'd still see other scientists chime in and try to debate questionable SJW talking points in good faith, and get a barrel of toxicity dumped on them for their efforts. It was a sorry spectacle.
I also got a really on-the-nose example of the mentality when one guy I followed went through a really nasty divorce and came out the other end a raging SJW, angry at the world and throwing endless buzzwords at the targets of his ire.
