Like them or not, superhero/comic book movies have dominated the cinematic landscape for much of the 2010s. And with studios like Marvel breaking records left and right along with the variety of opinions on KF, I was wondering where we all stand on the genre: Do you go see every movie put out by Marvel/DC/What have you? Have you sworn off the genre as a whole? Do you take it on a case-by-case basis? And onto that point, Do you see the, no pun intended, power of superhero movies continuing unabated into the 2020s, or do you think it will taper off as some new fad takes over?

Please post your responses below.

My two cents :

1) I watch them mostly on a case-by-case basis though sometimes I'll take a gander and check one out that I'm unfamiliar with (e.g. Ant-man);
2) I don't see the genre continuing as strong as it did in the next decade compared to the current; and
3) I personally would rather see the genre slow down a lot. I preferred how things were around the 80s and 90s when we had more of everything.

I've never been into superheros in the slightest and have never watched a superhero movie but the special effects in that avengers thing with the purple dude makes me wan't to torrent an hd version and watch it blazed.

for your question about superheros losing steam: I think we hit a peak of popularity with this new avengers things , I think they will keep pumping them out for a while longer until people start to get bored of them splurging the budget on special effects and ignoring plot. And when they do get bored, the films will have a popularity stagnation for a while before they get revived for another bout of popularity. Probably after there has been another bout of technological improvement in the movie industry. (special effects 'n' sheet.)

I don't think I've paid to see one since the first Toby Spidey, I think the last Marvelish thing I saw from start to finish was either Cap 2 or Guardians 1? Seemed okay.

I watch a bunch of Japanese hero stuff which isn't much different, so I'm not going to get on some high horse. But I'm not really into USA capeshit.

More into the spider verse less Captain marvel

More Netflix Daredevil less arrowverse

I think in the next few years you're going to see a rapid decline in the popularity of Cape movies because the new stars aren't going to have the same draw as people like Robert Downey Jr and Chris Hemsworth.

Kinda overdone at this point for me. But, I'm still a fan of some of the campy old Batman POW! SOCKO! WHAM! TV shows. Also, a few like Watchmen and Deadpool are usually a fun watch. But, I saturated on capes a long time ago and don't watch or pay them much mind.

I like a lot of Marvel and DC comics, but I am absolutely sick of the movies. Especially Marvel's not because they are bad (though I would prefer a better adaptation of the Civil War) but because there are just too many and it is bad for the movie industry. Disney in particular always has way too many films in the theater at any given time. I'm at the point where I just don't want to go and see any of them and support the continued production of them.
DC just hasn't had many good movies post-Dark Knight trilogy and doesn't put out nearly as much so I''m not that frustrated with them. I hear Booster Gold might be getting a movie which I am pumped for and want to see, other than that no real opinions on their current state or plans to see anything.

Been watching them since I saw the Tim Burton Batman films. So I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a soft spot for them.

As much as I enjoyed the MCU, I think I can safely say that any films post Endgame probably won’t be very good and I’ll just pass on them.

I read a lot of cape shit in the late 80s and 90s. I was kind of burnt out of superhero shit by the time the movies came out. I kind of hope that they slow down. There are a lot of neat interesting movies that get released that get drowned out by the tsunami of cape shit that comes out every year.

I’m unironically starting to like Sam Raimi’s Spiderman 3 and have a bit of nostalgia for his other Spiderman movies. At least they weren’t a yearly affair and they weren’t as obvious of cash grabs. They were pretty decent too. I still like classic superhero movies like the 1989 Batman movie, but at this point m, superhero movies are fucking everywhere and I’m sick of it

Superhero movies are literally the only thing keeping Hollywood on life support at this point, honestly. I can't think of a single good movie that came out to theaters last year that wasn't a cape film. That's not a high praise to the genre, mind you, but to point out the absolute sorry state of the current plane of vacation clip compilations being sold as comedies, infantile horror movies and remake ripoffs. It was a grave mistake for Netflix to discontinue Dare Devil.

I approach this genre like any other: I enjoy them when they're good. Once we reach a point where all of them suck again (like they did in the late 90s), then I'm ready to write them off and move on.

That said, though, I also think it's pretty sad that Hollywood can't successfully entice me to go see most other big blockbusters outside of superhero movies these days. Give me a mediocre MCU film over bullshit like Transformers or Jurassic World anyday. Variety is the spice of life, and I wish that I had more options as a moviegoer.

I'm pretty neutral. I can take 'em or leave 'em. Some of them I enjoy, some I thought were stupid. I agree that there definitely is an oversaturation of superhero movies, but that's just the nature of fads. A few years ago it was all zombie and vampire shit everywhere you looked. No one's forcing me to watch anything I don't want to, so I don't sperg about it.
