CBS All Access, the television network’s streaming service, announced this week that the producers of Star Trek: Discovery have cast two LGBTQ actors to play recurring roles in the upcoming third season. It’s a first for the science fiction franchise known for its groundbreaking history: a transgender man is playing a trans character named Gray, and a non-binary actor will be playing a non-binary character named Adira.

“Adira is a wonderfully complex character,” actor Blu del Barrio told GLAAD’s director of transgender representation, Nick Adams, in a blogpost. “Mainly because of this duality they have within them: They're astonishingly intelligent and yet they're still a kid. They experience their emotions at a heightened level, like most teenagers. That's what makes them so fun to play. I like to describe them as cerebrally brilliant and emotionally a puppy.”

That's autism. You're describing high-functioning autism.

Do people care about Discovery? I thought the consensus was that it was a confusing mess full of plot holes.

WTF are they even talking about? Star Trek has already went there when Riker falls in love with an alien who has no gender. Also Discovery is trash. Picard lost nearly all its audience and got shit-canned. Who in the fuck even watches Discovery anymore?

And what is the last good thing CBS has put out? I can't even fucking remember.

Does this constant blackwashing of history to pretend long-fought battles were never won actually make these progressives feel good? Like, I get why CBS is pushing it, they put idiots in charge who hate the series they're working on, and this is a desperate appeal for positive buzz, but do the various gutter journos who write these puff pieces to promote CBS' dogshit actually feel good about themselves? Constantly un-doing any progress your parents made so you can fight the same battle they did? I'd be miserable.

Wow.
In the distant future, trans people shouldn't exist. By then we should have corrected for any genetic causes of transgenderism, and any that get overlooked could easily be adjusted to their "correct" gender with a minimum of fuss.
So what they're suggesting is that being trans is more of a choice, like being goth, or being a emo skater.

If that ever became a medical possibility, you'd see trannies crying and bitching about how that erases their "culture".
Many of these people want to be the other sex - until it becomes a possibility and then they say it would erase them.
We've seen that with certain other groups, like I distinctly remember some support group for deaf people and another group about (I think) support for down syndrome as well.
A large part of this idiocy might be that the ones bitching are jealous that some sufferers might be cured, but to some degree, that rage is built upon them losing the foundation for their power and influence.
Shouldn't Federation medicine have cured mental illness by the 23rd century?
Keep in mind: The airlock will solve the issues that the medbay isn't capable of solving.

There's also Dax, a character who lived multiple lives as both a man and a woman. Hell, they nearly went full lesbian when encountering a lover from a past life.
