Also, Tor is slow because not enough people give back what they useーonly a handful of Tor nodes exist while plenty of people use them, and that clogs up bandwidth.

In my personal opinion, there need to be better and clearer restrictions on what corporations handling customer information are allowed to do with it. Notably, preventing hosts from interfering with content that is not explicitly illegal, and preventing social media sites (Twitter comes to mind) from trying to push political agenda. As for the former,
I'm not sure how that will work when every country has different laws and different freedoms, and as you said, changing Section 230 isn't easy. I'm also no lawyer so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Decentralized services such as Mastodon and email may provide a glimmer of hope, since their spread out nature makes censoring the entire thing quite difficult.

Good article. The decline of the internet is sad but there’s no such thing as a secret. All truths come to the light eventually. By that I mean, places like the internet will always exist.
