Well, the BBC recently did. And it's an English corpo too.

They published a very neat article regarding current lesbian issues and trans encroachment, twitter got assmad, BBC said "deal with it" and article will be kept up.

Amazing article. The part about "building your own internet" is a real blackpill and also made me realize why personal websites aren't really a thing anymore. Even if your website is squeaky clean and free of no-no very bad no good hate speech that would upset companies, it isn't worth putting the money and effort into setting up all of these things in an era where DDOSing is cheaper and easier than ever and social media gets more attention.

This is a common issue where too many people get caught up in the left/right dichotomy. Lefty troons are the flavor of the month. There will always be people left right and center who want to censor people, and the power structures that currently exist will always to happy to use these useful idiots to further their agendas.

The problem with the "swung pendulum" argument is that by the time it swings back, it's going to be too late. At least for current internet protocols and architecture.

The older internet was very much a DIY space with everyone creating their own little corners of the web. Now you rent space from a megacorp. The total user base has increased but like Null pointed out, the total sites have decreased.

Not to mention Google is essentially becoming a government entity. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but who the fuck allowed government/bankig apps to be centralized through Google? Opt out of Google Play and see how limited your options are.

These new smaller internets will become interwoven into daily life, and suddenly trying to break free will be a monumental task. Which is exactly what the corporations want. The old internet had limited monetization options. Now? Try finding something *not* monetized.

The interest is to keep the internet free enough to collect personal data from people powerleveling but not free enough that advertisers and governments will see their bland corporate PR campaigns compromised by controversy.

Tv, newspapers, radio. Those things were never free and most people are happy with the internet being curated by big corpoe like cable tv is anyways. I feel its a lost cause ultimately.

@Null I know you said on your article that you believe content which is not illegal should not be hidden away from the masses on the Internet, but have you ever considered using BBS or Usenet to keep KiwiFarms alive in the past? I was surprised how much effort it took to keep this site alive and wondered why not just abandon this Internet we are accustomed to (which is for sure falling apart as you said) and try something else that's easier

Truly insane how within one generation the endless possibilities of the internet have been largely squandered and politicized, how free speech is under attack from the "liberal" side of the political spectrum, and how near-monopolies on goods, services, and information have garnered so much fucking power. Great article and I would recommend it my normie friends when they start bitching about how the Internet is fucked up. I wouldn't link here but probably to the zerohedge article. It's not overly technical and most ignorant normies can understand it. It's so unfortunately true. I've pissed around with so many internet alternatives and they're all ghost towns. No one protocol is popular enough to have a vibrant community. The meshnet initiative was noble, but if you're outside a major metro area good fuckin luck. I think there's like 10-20 viable meshnets in north America. The protocols are all hashed out, there's just literally no incentive to leave for a worse, more complicated internet. Yet.

Once they clamp down on porn, and they will, it might light a fire under enough people's asses.
