Where's all the right-leaning creatives? -

This is something that's genuinely been bugging me for ages. One of the fuckiest things about my life, it seems, is that while my personal political beliefs and convictions lean right, any fandom I partake in is created and/or populated exclusively by lefties.
Cosplay is a hugbox of queer teens,
left-wing anarkiddies think any and all alternative fashion belongs to them by definition,
independent animation/video games are often created by people who through cultural coercion or genuine belief spout left-wing talking points on twitter,
and anything that gets a massive fanbase of people creating fan content tends to be mostly the kind that will attack or distance themselves from you if you criticize blm/transgenderism/what have you.
Meanwhile, What do I see happening creatively on the right?
Barely anything. If they have the balls to talk about their opinions at all, most likely the content they produce will be rambling youtube videos, because that's the one and only stake they have in any sort of media. And even then, when lefties make political content on youtube, like with breadtube, they make a big deal of it, wearing fancy costumes and having elaborate lighting in a 40+ min video essay, however shallow that extra layer of production value may be. Meanwhile, Jeremy from TheQuartering shits out 20 minute recordings of himself reading a news article, adding scant discussion of it, and calls it a day, rinse and repeat. Why is it that left-leaning people tend to create content that gets massively popular whereas I struggle to see anyone right of "floyd did nothing wrong" making an indie game/fanart of that indie game/webcomic/animation/cosplay/fashion statement, and moreover why doesn't it even get the chance to be popular, even if it has no political message behind it?
It can fucking suck, I'm a right leaning progressive but I'm not left enough for some people and it annoys the hell out of me

"Ghost ship culture"
That's an interesting term, but I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Can you elaborate?
It refers to the fact that more and more organizations don't consist of people anymore. It's just a brand, a skeleton crew of full-time staffers, and then a legion of faceless, interchangeable piecework slaves and outsourced services. Journalism is a prime example in the creative field - apart from a few boutique publications it's largely about parasitizing the big internet platforms with the cheapest clickbait.
But now there's no organizational culture and no equivalent of "working your way up from the mailroom" - you can't grab onto the bottom rung of the business ladder from mopping the floor at an AWS datacenter or churning out listicles, any more than the LA waitress can work her way up to Hollywood.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "right wing" creatives. Like someone who puts their politics in their work, or an artist that just happens to have right leaning ideas?
The later exists they just have to keep our mouths shut, lest they be cancelled like everyone else says here

A. Right wing creative people tend to be more practically minded and risk adverse and will settle for a creative hobby rather than taking the mammoth risk of attempting to make it their career.

B. The ring wing people who do end up getting to a professional level keep their fucking mouths shut. Look what they do to all the ones that don't.

I'd imagine either offline doing their creative stuff or hiding in plain sight not wanting to bring shit down on them.

Pretty sure I fall under the right with my ideals, but my creativity goes into plants, gardens, sniffing roses like it's cocaine. Never got the urge to upload it, kinda just enjoy the creations by myself or with people close to me.

Edit: might as well add this thought; so many people, especially online, view the world and everything they have in it through a racial lens nowadays. Go watch a video that has nothing to do with anything racist and for some god awful reason people are shitting up comments about race related shit. Not being able to escape that in the glorious present probably scares off a bunch of people too.

I imagine a lot end up channeling their creativity into things like business or tech instead of traditionally "arty" things as they get steered that direction from early on. The ones who do pursue things like music or graphic arts just keep their mouths shut.

Ask Sam Hyde & friends how being openly right-wing in those fields works out.

edit: OP is obviously pretty young so my advice would be to forget about "fandoms" and anything pop culture-adjacent. Let those people be weird fags on their own time and focus on more useful things.

Right winger creative types will post just simple, ordinary facts in a plain, presentable ordinary style. No need for anything flashy.. but that's my .02¢

Id like to ask those who are not left and have a creative career to try something.

Find at least 150 people (or less) to train and introduce into your field based on some non political characteristic they have.

Is most of your field filled with drug and sex crazed degenerates? Mentor and introduce some straight edge people. Are most of your peers into politics? Introduce some people whose theme in their work is mystical and not political. You get the idea.

Another factor most right wingers don't want to admit to?

Lefties support thier own more. Even when they make some real dogshit, they circle the wagons, head to the ramparts, and spend money and time to support them.

Righties let thier own whither and die under opposition fire. And then spend thier money supporting artists and companies who hate them.

Case in point, past couple months, where were the right wingers when lefties tried to cancel Sylvester Stallone, or when they tried to get Baen Books pulled from the shelves? Hell, Righties can't even kick MLB baseball and Marvel movies.

Lefties vote with thier wallets and free time. Righties largely don't... and only recently do they notice the consequences.

Sorry to PL but I have worked as a pro musician and can confirm that you are right...this is EXACTLY how it goes.

This is just an example but say you're in a struggling but talented metal band and you drive your rattling truck home on fumes every night to be greeted by your pregnant wife shrieking about the stack of bills on the kitchen table. Her mother hates your guts and tells you so daily. Even your own dog gives you shit.

Then one day some industry talent scouts notice your demo and they tap the band for the roster of the next Feed The Africans charity gig...or a Pride festival that summer...or a Rock The Vote event sponsored by your area's Democratic Committee.

...and did we mention you guys will be opening up for Rage Against The Machine?

Are you gonna turn that down and spend the rest of your life a peasant because based and redpilled...or are you going to take the offer you can't refuse, and get up onstage and be that obnoxious hippie?

They have you right by the balls and they know it. You are a guitar-playing monkey. Now dance.

This. I don't think most people understand just how exploitative the entertainment industry can be. Between all of the spoiled prima donnas, the jealousy surrounding you, the crab mentality, the endless middlemen trying to pump-and-dump you for all you're worth, is it really any wonder the lucky few who actually hit it big think THE WHOLE WORLD is like this?

Think back to when the Weinstein story broke. All those women trading sex for a film career. Surprise surprise, they all will shrill your ear off about rape culture. Because to them, some vile pig holding their livelihoods hostage in exchange for a blowie is just daily life.

Honestly, I don’t really think there is a such a thing as “right-wing” or “left-wing” creatives. When I think of creatives, I think of people whose works have transcended and dramatically stood the test of time (Newton, Tesla, Einstein, Dr. Seuss, Charles Schulz, etc.)

This left-wing/right-wing dichotomy regarding creative works like movies, comics or music is something that only works in America, since most of those people like to think they can speak for the rest of the world when they’re not trying to pretend like their borrowing cultures from other countries and blaming them for “cultural appropriation” (countries like Saudi Arabia, Israel, China, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, etc.)

While I do agree that cancel culture has managed to make right-leaning political individuals have to walk on eggshells for very ridiculous and manipulative reasons just to save their careers, left-leaning political individuals don’t have much ground to walk on either, while they own all the parts of the “establishment” and media channels that they claim they want to topple over.

TL;DR - “Left” and “right” wing creatives operate on the same playbook, but just by different standards. Yet, those standards don’t always make for great art, or unique works that can stand the test of time. It’s one of the reasons why they still force you to like superhero movies, even though most people are tired of it.

Being something and talking about it endlessly are two different things.

I would caution you (in an honestly friendly way) against assuming the range and balance of opinions being heard on social media is the same as what exists. Discretion is the key to many things in contemporary society.

A veteran artist that's been putting out beautiful art for decades was caught liking the wrong Tweets. She now deserves to starve, to hell with her legacy. Trans is not a cult. Trans is not a mental illness.

OT: I feel like right-wing leaning creatives either keep their ideas to themselves, or simply pretend to follow the party line whenever asked just enough to not raise any suspicions.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "right wing" creatives. Like someone who puts their politics in their work, or an artist that just happens to have right leaning ideas?

Exactly. The thing is, like someone already said in this thread, not having any opinions is already in itself pretty suspicious, a pretty obvious sign that you're hiding something, actually. So isn't it better to just lie? Like a couple of the right tweets, and vaguely state you're for this and that other woke thing that's trending this week if anyone has to ask. But I don't know, I'm not a public person.

I'm still waiting for Mike Judge to be cancelled for being buddies with Alex Jones.

By now a lot of the "creatives" that sit anywhere to the right of center have been either chased out of whatever field they work in or they're keeping it low-key. A few have just tried to become as independent as possible, and some are just so well-established and well-to-do that they aren't considered worth the effort required to take down.

A big reason for it is that the personality traits that predict creativity also tend to predict left leaning politics. Creative people like to try new things and don't care much for stability. Liberals are the same thing.
