Whites in the United States have a disproportionately higher suicide rate than other races, topped only by natives (for obvious reasons), but I don't really understand why this is, and I suggest we hypothesize as to the reason, since to me it makes no sense since blacks and hispanics are generally poorer.

I read somewhere once that extreme adversity can actually drive suicide rates down, so maybe it's a bunch of upper middle-class kids succumbing to ennui and listlessness because they have nothing to challenge them and nothing to strive towards.
