Maybe they stood out from other games, they weren't generic mooks, state your reason.

I really enjoyed the way the enemies coordinate in the original Halo; not so noticeable until you get into the higher difficulty settings but learning how to prioritize them based on not only their type but their loadout and location was very satisfying.

Eta: except for the Flood. Fuck that boring shit.

The clone soldiers from F.E.A.R. I was amazed at the time by the way they coordinated and how fluid they felt. They were always supressing so they could push up on you by bounding from cover to coveror tossing grenades to flush you out. They'd even retreat and regroup if they thought they were at a disadvantage. It was amazing at the time. I haven't vidyaed much in a long time and I was never that into shooters, but no other stock enemies in an FPS ever impressed me like they did.

I really liked CoD 4 russian rebels enemies.
There was a huge variety between them and they looked like actual guerrillas (save for those who always wore gas masks).

Those are only some of the 30+ models that game used for this single faction.
They really looked like the rogue and diverse army they were described to be.

They were also some of the first NPCs in FPS to have idle animations when they weren't attacking you - smoking, talking to the phone, sleeping, talking to each other.
I didn't aggro them just to watch what they did.

Some of the zombies in NecorVision Last company seem to be repeating the last thing they said before they died, and that's kind of creepy. Or maybe I'm miss hearing it.

Probably the base Xenomorphs in AvP2, due to how durable and how many different states they can be in. You can shoot off their arms/legs and there is a chance they will still be alive and active afterwords with whatever limbs they have left. If you destroy their legs, they'll crawl after you in a really slow manner. I'm not positive on this but I think that if you destroyed only their arms they would still run at you standing up and just do biting attacks. I remember in the expansion I was able to destroy all the limbs and all that was left was a torso and a head and it still wasn't dead, it just kind of wiggled around. It was really interesting to me at the time because I can't think of any games that really did something like that.

This is cheating because its a TPS but I really liked the Akrid in Lost Planet 1 and 2 as well, mostly because of the designs on them.
