Some years back it was reported that a japanese man had survived unarmed from an assault by black bear. Badly hurt, yes, but ultimately the bear had run away. I'm quite sure that if the human fighter is determined enough and can willingly sacrifice left hand(for dog to chew on), it's possible for human to overcome the breeds used as police dogs, as they aren't that large. Against a Bully Kutta or Caucasian Shepherd Dog unarmed human doesn't stand a change, other than climbing high enough that these beasts can't reach him.

Fatal attacks by bears are really rare. I've never seen anything but the back side of a brown bear, because they usually just slowly amble away, or even run away, when they see a human. Black bears are not much more aggressive, and it's really rare for them even to attack a human. It's usually a mother bear defending cubs, usually because the human was really fucking stupid. Even grizzly bears and polar bears rarely attack humans. And even when they do, people usually escape. But not this guy.

Anyway, even if you live in the middle of bear country, you're still more likely to be killed by another human than a bear.
