Why are people so impressed of foreign cuisines? -

It's a bit of a meme by this point where people get incredibly obsessed with foreign cuisine to the point of exceptionalism. I mainly refer to Mexican, Indian and Thai cuisines that use fuckton of spices in their foods, which are good but not that good.
So my question is why? Are most western folk unaware of the concept of spices? Is it simply hype and trying to fit in?

People crave variety. That's about it. The funny thing about Indian food is that the spice is mainly there to counteract the fact that the water there isn't potable, then they add ghee (clarified butter) to stop it from scorching the shit out of your mouth. Also, their desserts are disgustingly sweet to further help quell the burning.

I don't know about Mexico and Thailand but I'd assume their food is spicy for the same reason.

People look for meaning and an identity in things. Some people choose food. Some choose bands. Some choose television shows or sports teams. They hope that by being so into Thai they will be more interesting.

I mean I like Mexican, Indian, and Thai but I don't obsess over them.

Indian is dope as fuck, also white people have no culture and their food is bland and barely palatable.

Most likely due to the cuisine they eat comes from expensive restraunts or they don't season their food and cook it well enough. Now if it's like home shit it's variety.

Same reason play more than one videogame

I love Doom sure, and enjoy the various mods and conversions and sequels and reboots and whatever of it, but even if its my favouritest game everer Im still going to want to branch out and try different games when the mood strikes me or when somebody I know recommends something new to me.

Hell if you have been paying attention to my food spergings here you will notice I spent a longass time babbling about cajun/creole cuisine, but have in the past year shifted to korean foods and most recently some turkish and middle eastern shit. This isnt to say I dont fucking love Jambalaya, its just that it makes little sense not to sample new and easily attainable flavours and there is nothing wrong with deeply enjoying more than one kind of food.

Sometimes I try something new, and while I really enjoy it its too much of a bitch to make, i.e. Doro Wat and a whole bunch of african dishes due to the difficulty of sourcing certain ingredients and fiddly/lengthy prep work, and thus I only really try them a few times. Other times things are really easy for me to make, but I just dont particularly like the flavours and they quickly drop off my menu, i.e. Mexican food.

Basically if you can easily get the ingredients and its easy to make, I see zero reason why you shouldnt try it, and if you like it then you know you can make it whenever you desire.

Also anypony still willingly paying money to the restaurant jew-racket without the excuse of trying to get into some landwhale's panties is the goyest of the goys. Seriously its not that fucking hard to look up some recipes and watch some basic "how to turn on a frying pan" youtube videos to get the basics of cooking

"WHY DO PEOPLE REALLY LIKE THING?"

For the same reason people like the color blue, or certain perfumes, or rye whiskey over any other. Tastes are something one develops and there's no accounting for them most of the time.

I personally think Thai is absolutely heavenly but I have people ask me to explain why and I really can't. I just like it.

People like different cultural foods for a load of reasons. Their recipes often use ingredients that are around them, many of which someone from another country hasn't seen much use of. Now that global trade allows such previously rare things to be brought from all over the ideas spawned from necessity or in some cases more recent access are novel.

There's the simple fact that something yet unseen seems more appealing in a grass-is-always-greener way and there's the people who think they must put on airs to seem more cosmopolitan. Look at them, they're so fancy they enjoy food from all over the world!~

That and some food made by other cultures is absolutely delicious on its own, it should be given these are recipes that have stuck around for extended periods of time.

Oh and since I'm sure the OP is primarily baiting to get some 'WYTE PYPO USE SPICE, LOL' response.. it depends on the area and family history. A cajun or creole rooted family will have loads. Then you get a midwestern family that will just slam a chicken thigh into unsalted broth and call it Soup.

Just because you say something doesn't make it true.

Being proud of eating food from different cultures is only a hair less autistic than creating forum threads where you invent a strawman to ridicule.

I've heard it theorized that spice in food works as a natural antiparasitic (meaning people who eat heavily spiced food in hot climates where intestinal and other parasites are common have a way of defeating them), as well as working to mask food going "off" in warm climates (which happens quicker than in colder climes). The potable water aspect is interesting too, however water doesn't necessarily need to be "potable" when you're cooking a curry with it, because you're simmering it near boiling long enough to render it more or less potable.

Because they genuinely taste good. It's not rocket science.

You could make the argument that the exoticness is a factor, but popular Indian and Mexican food have been so thoroughly WASPified, with Thai now following suit, that I don't think that even holds up.
