He was growing up around the time they were immensely popular. I find it kinda odd that he didn't go nuts over TMNT seeing as how easily Chris falls into fads like Pokemon. Any thoughts?

I have always wondered that too. The first thought that comes to my mind is that it was too masculine for him, but then again, he was a fan of that Samurai Pizza Cats show. You also have to consider that he thought the Filmation Ghostbusters was better than the "Real" Ghostbusters. Much like the rest of Chris's life, its a total and baffling mystery. He may have also considered them pop culture competition for Sonic.

Probably Barb didn't want him to watch it because it was "too violent". That wasn't an uncommon thought among mothers.

Maybe he was into Ninja Turtles, just not that into it. You know, like these shows you watched as a kid, didn't like, but watched it nevertheless, because it was on TV all the time. I remember Captain Planet was like that for me. I hated it, yet I remember it was constantly on TV when I was a kid, and eventually I ended up watching some episodes anyway.

TMNT in the 80s had some very dry humor. It was also somewhat plot driven. I think it was a little advanced for his mental bracket.

Chris is kind of weird with his fandoms, too, remember. He loathed Harry Potter because he thought it was competing with Pokemon. You'd think he would have been all over Digimon but he probably ignored it for the same reasons.

I wondered as well. The show was super popular and had plenty of goofy characters and villains. Every kid that was into the show had a favorite turtle (Donatello, yeaah!) so it must have been something that kids around his age talked about. I dunno...
Either his parents controlled what he watched and thought it was too violent, or the dynamic of the show didn't really appeal to young Chris. His tastes in cartoons seem to have been a little more "particular".

Or maybe, like someone else mentioned, he didn't really care for it and only watched it because it was there - I think that if he had liked it to any extent he would have ripped off something from it to use in his comic. (Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtles?)
On that note, I wonder why we never saw any allusions to this thing in Sonichu. Considering he found a way to cram in rip-offs of every other thing he loved, it's a little surprising there are no references to what he claimed was his childhood hero.
I can't see him getting into SatAM too much. I think he would have preferred the random access humor and overall atmosphere of the shittier syndicated cartoon. Didn't he also Netflix some Sonic Underground?
He mentioned in a mock-interview once that he was okay with Digimon. Most people I knew back then who liked Pokemon also liked Digimon, so I would guess that Chris watched the show sometimes - though again, given its serious (for a kids' show) nature I can't see him being terribly into it. I have a personal theory that Chris likes light, mindless, relatively fluffy storylines in the stuff he watches and reads, and then writes tons of melodrama into his own works - just like with real life, he doesn't want to hear about other people's problems but expects people to be deeply concerned with his.
