Seriously, so many times I've seen people on social and "news" media decry others for "punching down", even when the ones "punching down" are doing so against people of much greater social status than they?

Also, when did "punching up", in direct contrast and comparison, become an inherently good thing? I've seen many people who could be considered to be "punching up" who were just outright spastics or downright terrible people, but they were given free passes for "punching up" against nebulous higher evils than they.

Then again, similar to "punching down", I've seen people being praised for "punching up" against people of much lower social status than they.
