I often see "traditionalists" claim that transgenderism is a recent phenomenon, and only exists because of "liberals" and "SJWs", but there is evidence of transgenderism existing for a long time before it was a political talking point (for example, I can find ladyboy porn going back as far the 80s). How can "traditionalists" unironically claim transgenderism is a recent phenomenon.

Elagabalus was definitely a tranny because some tranny historians in the 21st Century said he wanted to have a sex change even though Roman historians only said he was sexually ambivalent and that they only said that to damage his reputation and make his assassination by the Praetorian Guard seem to be legitimate. And there's no way that sort of surgery was possible in a time before anesthetic and it's not clear that the Romans even had a notion of homosexuality and heterosexuality, let alone transsexuality. Rather they viewed the passive participant in any sex act as being unmanly and dishonorable, a sort of ancient version of 'it's not gay if you're the pitcher'.
