Why do people think that Monty Python and the Holy Grail is better than Monty Python's Life of Brian? -

Why is Holy Grail so much more popular than Life of Brian? Life of Brian is a much funnier movie with better jokes.

Good question.

Both movies are great, and Holy Grail has the single biggest belly-laugh in all of history for me with the vorpal bunny tearing off Sir Bors' head and then fucking up the rest of the knights, but the Life of Brian is the more coherent story by far and most long-lasting and genuinely funny jokes are defenately from The Life of Brian.

The whole 'Biggus Dickus' sequence still has me holding my laughs in empathy with those poor guardsman until everyone breaks at 'Incontentia Buttocks' no matter how many times i've seen it now.

Holy Grail is the one with all the memes ("The knights who say NI", "I fart in your general direction", "Bring out your dead", "It's only a model", "Get on with it!" and many more).
Life of Brian has 1 known meme ("Always look at the bright side of life") and maybe 2 minor ones ("Biggus Dickus" and "Burn the witch!").

These days, a movie is good if it has popular memes.
That's the reason why some people claim to unironically like the Star Wars prequels and call them good movies, the memes make the movies more enjoyable in their minds than they really are.

"He's not the Messiah; he's a very naughty boy!" is probably my favourite movie quote, ever. Also, Holy Grail just sort of falls apart at the end. I agree, the better story is Life of Brian.

The end of Holy Grail is kind of a cop out. Like they didnt have the money to do the ending they wanted, or didnt know what they wanted to do to end it, so they just plopped a layer of reverse 4th wall breaking absurdism on top and FIN.
