Why do socialists hate landlords? -

I've seen so many of them on the internet whine about them. It just seems to be the most random group of people they could possibly hate. I mean yeah, if the landlord raises the rent on a home, they're complete jerks, but they're still normal people regardless.

So what's going on here, what's with their hatred of landlords?

My old man's a landlord himself and due to this whole corona-virus thing, people are squatting in the apartments he owns not paying their rent because apparently he can't kick them out due to the quarantine and they know it. Least that's what he told me.

Relationship between renter and landlord is imbalanced. When one is at behest of contract to cough up hard earnings to another who can, in some places, put you on street with little reason there will obviously grow a cold bitterness.

I think it's three things.
1. they are used to someone else paying for them since they were kids till they left college they never worried about rent so they expect it to be free. When they are expected to pay for something that has been provided to them they get upset.
2.Paying Landlords is a reminder that the property you are staying is isn't yours and most people seems to think they are owed a place to stay.
3. They don't realize how much money and work goes into up keeping a property. They seem to think people just rent houses without incurring cost and ignore the work a landlord would put into a property. Owning property is risky and for small renters one bad renter can bankrupt you.

I experience this all the time in the properties my families own, the most aggravating part is these idiots don't realize they are diminishing the value of a property because they are using it. I shit you not I had a renter who punched a whole in my wall and who was there when I replaced my flooring and they still had the nerve to claim I did nothing to the property.

Renters don't realize that renting properties takes more than work and that houses degrade over time they just think shit like foundation, AC, Insulation, Drywall, Utensils, etc. come out of thin air and never incur any damage. Or realize how much it cost to not only get rid of a bad renter but how much damage someone can do in a month. For example in Michigan you need to give your renters a months notice and eviction can take up to 6 months if you rent to the wrong people. Now I bet none of you fagots have had the joy of evicting a single mother who tore out the wiring a week before she left and having to hire a cleaning team to clean up all the used needles. It's expensive, It takes forever if you get the wrong judge and it's cheeper to pay the person a couple grand to leave.

Because internet socialists and communists think socialism will translate to them sitting on their ass on UBI with all labor being either optional or automated. They also tend to be irrationally violent towards anyone who disagrees with them or stands in their desired way of life (see Antifa). Hence, someone who forces them to get a job to pay for a service -- in this case, renting an apartment -- is naturally going to get on their personal shitlist.

When Marx was complaining about landlords the government was entirely on their side. In Scotland huge clearances were given to a small clique of elites and thousands were cleared off of their land and left destitute, This happened all overt he UK for two centuries but in Scotland this was literally to create hunting land and Golf courses.

There is a valid complaint against some landlords. Most of them either inherit their properties or pay somebody else to manage them. They're effectively the idle rich and this can easily be seen as parasitic.

The only justifications for landlords is that they're more efficient than public housing and the appeal to private property rights. The problem with that logic that they're heavily subsidized (tax breaks) so they're not and the land was given to them unfairly in many cases.

Alot of "landlords" are not these subsidized land barons but ordinary people with a little extra space. There should definitely be a way to separate the two in these discussions.

The greatest irony of this debate is that it was Ruth Bader Ginsburg who supported eminent domain that would give land to the rich. Wokeness is maddening.

That is t true. Alot of Marx's critiques about landlords don't hold up anymore thanks to regulations that favor tenants. There is now alot of risk when taking tenants and that actually does justify some money making.

The original reason is that in classical economical theory land is often used as an example of something that doesn't get improved if you invest in it (no, not seriously, but like a thought experiment). So therefore someone owning the land and taking money for usage of it would lead to marked inefficiency. Industry built on the land would have an extra cost to production that strictly wasn't necessarily needed, as the land is considered worthless on it's own. Also, considering that a lot of land was owned by very few people, often given to them for arbitrary reasons, this was somewhat true at times. The nobility and clergy had a lot of land and just didn't do shit with it.

That being said. Someone who rents out an apartment or house do not fit this bill, as the apartment deteriorates over time. To be able to compete you would have to invest in it. So they probably just hate the landlord because he takes their hard earned Patreon money.

A lot of modern socialism differs between houses and other property. Non-communist socialism (or just mixed economy if you find that to be an oxymoron) often try to charge different taxes for household and property meant for renting. As they want the workers to be able to afford their own houses, not rent.
