why does kiwi farms have a bad name - does it have a bad reputation?

I always heard kiwifarms had a bad reputation and being branded as a stalker forum and the internetz hate machine, but i never really knew why. Would a positive reputation help us or would that cater to white knights, redditors and people looking for a personal army? Why does it get such a bad reputiation?

It seems like the only people complaining are the cows under scrutiny, and i wouldn't even consider it a stalker website because all information compiled about lolcows here are purely publicly accessible information that they themselves put up online.

Kiwifarms is an website dedicated to observe, archive and laugh at idiots/morons/lolcows: Essentially this is a gossip website. Due to the fact very little poeple like having their skeletons aired out of the closet and being mocked and ridiculed, an infamous reputation quickly stemmed from this. This becomes slightly dumbfounding when one considers that most of the individuals we discuss here voluntary and completely of their own violition released said skeletons on a very publicly accessable resource A.K.A the internet.

Whilst we do participate in methods of obtaining information on individuals (which is most of the time just looking at old social media accounts cows once made but forgot to delete.), all that Kiwifarms intends to do with said information is to use it to ridicule and laugh at the cow, and this is enforced by the rules on said board.
