Solution
I don't know how the meme got started exactly, but the "Wholesome Keanu chungus 100" meme (that's supposed to be derogatory or ironic to Reddit) has probably overblown "Reddit's" liking of him. Reddit is a very large forum platform that is quite varied in topics (we tend to forget that) so I imagine it had to have started in a select few subs.
Because of John Wick and he is Reddit's idea of what a Alpha Male Chad is.

It started out with him being generous towards the production staff of the matrix. He wasnt in a lot of good films for awhile but he had a guy fettei sort of reputation as a good guy despite not being a quality guy. (Shitty cook, shitty actor) but then John Wick started the resurgence and him not having any real scandals made him a huge deal for reddit. They like him more than ryan Reynolds too because he isnt intimidatingly attractive or douchy either. And he didnt take roles where he was a super shithead either. (Van wilder might as well be the greatest story never told for how much reddit hates it + no one has seen hardball in almost 20 years)
And then it just memed out from there. It probably helps that he either makes completely dogshit films that no one watches a year later or classics. Outside of the matrix and bill+ted films no one under 20 is going to see an old keanu Reeves film. Also him being single since his wife and kid died is probably endearing.
