Why does the UK worship the NHS? -

This comes back to how British culture and values are defined. To me, the NHS is the best of British.

It is one thing that ties the majority of us together.

People from across the globe coming together to care for others, in a British institution with equality at its heart.
In this unhinged screed by some repugnant alien in Britain yammering about how the British don't exist so its okay to exterminate them, she drops this: 'the NHS is the best of British'. I've heard this sentiment many times and I do not understand it.

Why is the NHS revered in such an unusual fashion?

Please clap.

The average Brit knows no real alternative: as far as they are concerned, the only choices are worshiping at the Golden Calf of the NHS or the hated American model which conjures up images of patients dying of diphtheria in dilapidated hospital corridors. These types tend to be Europhiles but they are seemingly unaware that many European Union member states use various hybrid healthcare models.

Perhaps the peculiar devotion to the NHS can be explained, partially at least, as a product of secularization: hospitals used to be ran by monks and nuns after all. Nigel Lawson famously said, "the NHS is the closest thing the English people have now to a religion."

Pretty much this.

Most can't fathom that there IS a better system to go in for. Also, agreement out of familiarity or ideology.

These same people will also shit on the NHS when it suits them, but will take up the sword when anybody dares criticise it.

Englander here, the NHS is buckling under the strain caused by the state-enforced multiculturalism and mass immigration social experiment and as you've probably guessed, the standard of care and treatment have plummeted over the years thanks to third world immigrants taking job roles as nurses, doctors etc.... something, I might add, that us native Brits are constantly told by the government and mainstream media we should be grateful for.

The absolute chutzpah of it.

Fun fact...it doesn't cover dental. That's why so many bongs still have teeth that would scare off Nosferatu-- it's because they actually have to pay real £££ to get their fangs done.

Not true, people on benefits (welfare) can get their teeth done, but the procedure has to be carried out at an NHS dentist, which can be problematic as many dental practices are private and charge extortionate prices.

Because it's a population of dying old people who need free medical care to survive. British don't have kids; it's a man-desert.
