The media are trolls who don't want any potential sweethearts finding out about him. :tomgirl:

As for why they haven't done a report about "Retarded autistic man bullied by internet trolls", it's probably because he would have to contact the news, instead of the other way around.

Bullying and autism are very divisive topics, that most programs want to avoid, either because it's not their area of specialization, or it's too complex a subject. For a production that doesn't mind picking on someone, they risk white knights accusing them of picking on a retarded transgendered guy who can't defend himself. If anyone tries to frame him in a sympathetic light, either doing an expose on cyber-bullying or the social pitfalls of autism, it doesn't take much for Chris' terrible true nature to come out or details of his repeated legal troubles to destroy all sympathy for him. There's no shortage of other folks who would work under either circumstance, that isn't as much of a potential problem, and Chris isn't notable enough to warrant risking it.

Agreed. The only worthwhile approach to Chris's story from a media point-of-view would be an anti-online bullying approach, and Chris (despite his current dressing habits) is not a teenaged girl, or a young gay man who committed suicide. The media would never be able to spin sympathy for a 30 year old creepster who still lives with his mother in a trash heap. (especially since, as you pointed out, Chris has a history of legal trouble stemming from his public behavior) Plus, putting Chris or his mother on camera would be a disaster for everyone involved.

in short, regardless of your angle, if you ran a story on Chris you would probably get fired.

Chris and Barbara are more suited for the likes of Jerry Springer.

"Today we've got an autistic manchild crossdresser and his hoarder mother! Also a gay nazi and a transsexual trucker!"

Chris has turned himself into something too weird for the mainstream media to touch. Its kind of difficult to garner sympathy for a man who refuses to grow up and wears women's clothing all the time.

The only way Chris would work in mainstream TV is if it were a documentary on the dangers of main-streaming children with autism. They do research before picking someone for a documentary and I can imagine someone reading up on Chris and just refusing to touch that with a bargepole. As much as there are lots of muppets who yell things down the phone at Chris :julay: , there is no way that you could listen to Alec's calls (with his super-human patience) or the father call and not see Chris as a complete dick.

Probably because his story can't easily be summed up in 30 seconds or less. Chris's story would be too complicated for the mainstream media as it's not a clear cut case of good/bad, as there's arguments for both sides. Maybe it'd be oversimplified to "Bullies bully autistic man" but the report would fall short when they realize that Chris oftentimes provokes people and says some very un-PC stuff mainly about homosexuals and stuff.

I think you could do a story of, "The Weird World of Christian Weston Chandler" (Original title DO NOT STEAL) in a long-form magazine article. They've done them on other topics like goons, /b/, and Weeve.

When I first heard of Chris, my first thought was 'this guy will one day be the subject of an Errol Morris film.'

Think of it this way: Have you ever tried to explain Chris to someone who hadn't heard of him? You can't do it, it's impossible. People have to come to Chris on their own, otherwise you could spend an entire afternoon explaining him and they still wouldn't really get it.

The media is the same way. Like Champ said, there's no way to turn Chris into a soundbite. Mainstream audiences wouldn't want to invest their attention in it.

Chris' story is really complicated and convoluted. It would be too difficult for the media to choose what to report on. Also, what others have said, he's not all that news-worthy.

You can't give someone directions or a map to CWCville, they have to take the same wrong turn that we all took.

Why would he want to be on TV? He already has a billion fans!

But I guess doing a televised documentary on the sexual anatomy of sonichus and rosechus wouldn't hurt

Because Chris is just some idiot. He's not interesting unless you dig deep. He's not the spastic dynamo he was a few years ago. Now he's just some loser in his mom's house.
