GFYS said:Bullying and autism are very divisive topics, that most programs want to avoid, either because it's not their area of specialization, or it's too complex a subject. For a production that doesn't mind picking on someone, they risk white knights accusing them of picking on a retarded transgendered guy who can't defend himself. If anyone tries to frame him in a sympathetic light, either doing an expose on cyber-bullying or the social pitfalls of autism, it doesn't take much for Chris' terrible true nature to come out or details of his repeated legal troubles to destroy all sympathy for him. There's no shortage of other folks who would work under either circumstance, that isn't as much of a potential problem, and Chris isn't notable enough to warrant risking it.

Agreed. The only worthwhile approach to Chris's story from a media point-of-view would be an anti-online bullying approach, and Chris (despite his current dressing habits) is not a teenaged girl, or a young gay man who committed suicide. The media would never be able to spin sympathy for a 30 year old creepster who still lives with his mother in a trash heap. (especially since, as you pointed out, Chris has a history of legal trouble stemming from his public behavior) Plus, putting Chris or his mother on camera would be a disaster for everyone involved.
in short, regardless of your angle, if you ran a story on Chris you would probably get fired.
Alec Benson Leary said:Think of it this way: Have you ever tried to explain Chris to someone who hadn't heard of him? You can't do it, it's impossible. People have to come to Chris on their own, otherwise you could spend an entire afternoon explaining him and they still wouldn't really get it.
The media is the same way. Like Champ said, there's no way to turn Chris into a soundbite. Mainstream audiences wouldn't want to invest their attention in it.
