Why is drug trafficking punished so harsly? -

Ever see that video of the cartel members eating a guy's heart?
Right, some drug dealers (like El Chapo) were convicted for other things such as murder along with drug traffficking.

In the case of the guy I mentioned above, he wasn't linked to any murders, child pornography, or things of that nature though.

Yeah, he only ruined countless lives in the pursuit of illegal profit. The hippie lie of 'drugs are cool' is quickly undone by spending time around those who partake.

So, punish those who facilitate the enslavement of millions to hopeless fantasy. I won't miss any of them.

Just like the actual doctors and pharmacists slinging legal pharmaceuticals that are just as dangerous and addictive. The only reason the government cares so much about drug traffickers is because they're in bed with the much more lucrative big pharma schemes and illegal trafficking takes a part of their cut. You ever wonder why we're still in Afghanistan? It's not to take their oil that's for sure.

It's interesting, then, that the government could fairly straightforwardly legalize and then tax what we now call illegal drugs, leading to profit instead of loss (cost of drug enforcement) but they don't. Also, I keep pestering my doc about a script for cocaine but he won't fill it.

Ross Ulbricht also (although he was scammed) hired people to whack two dudes. His plea deal had those charges dropped.

Also, traffickers are the reason the cartels have money. It's the same with child porn, creating a market for it. America pretty much fell for the "drug addicts are people and need help" meme but we have to blame someone for creating a market, so we blame the wholesalers. Traffickers that move hundreds of kilos of coke are the people that allow the cartels to maintain their power, and therefore perpetuate the violence in Mexico.

Exactly, people who enslave millions with dangerous drugs should die. Every doctor who ever prescribed benzo or SSRI to anyone should hang, just like doctors pushing HRT and puberty blockers on children or culling old people with untested experimental "vaccines".

I don't however have a problem with businessmen who produce, transport and sell substances like cocaine. I admire their resilience and entrepreneurship. When you mfs grow up and maybe try to start your own business one day you will realize the amount of willpower it takes to build something in this world without spreading your asscheeks so that the government can fuck you

Ethically, it's because junkies barely contribute to society and they'll eventually die from an overdose.

Plus, it puts guns in the hands of some of the larger gangs, along with promoting tax evasion.

Sounds like you need to believe in science and trust Doctors.

I like how people say the US is in bed with farmaceutical companies and removing competition.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegations_of_CIA_drug_trafficking

What about the fact that they've been in bed with various drug traffickers to create off the books money for the CIA? They're in bed with recreational drug pushers as well, which is far more direct competition. It's a classic controlling two sides of a conflict and milking the public.

They can use on the books money to remove competitors, and keep the off the books cashflow healthy.

Because hardcore narcotics can very easily result in life ruination after just a few uses (heroin, for example).

And no, it's not "just hurting themselves". You create a mass of completely nonfunctional people that start causing trouble for everyone else because their brains don't work correctly anymore. Widespread addiction quickly spells disaster for everyone even in remote proximity.

Not just in America, but in other countries such as China as well (in China, drug trafficking is one of the crimes punishable by death).

As an example Ross Ulbricht (Infamous Silk Road drug trafficker) received a double-life sentence with no parole, worse than some murders, rapists, and child molesters have received:

Ross tried to have 2 people killed and was dealing in more than just drugs. He was put in prison as an example of why you shouldn't run dark net smuggling networks. He helped sell everything from drugs to weapons.

It's interesting, then, that the government could fairly straightforwardly legalize and then tax what we now call illegal drugs, leading to profit instead of loss (cost of drug enforcement) but they don't. Also, I keep pestering my doc about a script for cocaine but he won't fill it.

Illegal drugs are far more destructive than anything given to you over the counter. Misusing medication can lead to addiction and other problems but meth and similar substances will do that no matter how careful you are using it. Drug addicts are nasty people who will beg, borrow and steal to get what they want. They are often violent and sexually violent when they're high and having to live around them is dangerous. Asking to make them legal is the broken window fallacy. You would get to tax it but then you have to deal with the social and monetary cost of having a society of drug addicts. Which is something the British did to China in exchange for tea since it was easier than trying to conquer them the traditional way

Because for as much as people like to say "drug no bad" they are crippling. One of my closest friends was a weedbrain and nic addict. Every single time me and boys sat him down and tried to convince him to quit, he'd go "its not that bad guys, I'm being smart!".
Every single time. He only quit once he got fucking lung cancer.
Same thing with my grandfather. Never quit smoking until he found himself on his deathbed at 63.
Another one loved Molly. He couldn't go without it. One day he wanted to get somewhere a little quicker and ran a red light. He probably never even saw the car that hit and killed him.
Easy access to narcotics cripples a significant amount of the population that could contribute to society in a meaningful way if their only worry wasn't getting a new Big Chief or some Roxy.
Fuck drugs.
