I'd have expected DSP to have improved over the years but he still seems to be ignorant of basic, common gameplay mechanics. The only explaination I can think of is he plays it up for views.

Phil sat himself on a high horse once when he called himself "one of the best overall gamers in the country" and he also said he "could beat every game if he wants to" when in fact the little skill he had was limited to fighting games, and especially Street Fighter.
Aside from Walking Simulators and Telltale-style games you can see the lack of skill and adaption to different genres. It doesn't matter if third-person, racing game (simulator or arcade), sports game, FPS, RPG, Action RPG or behold puzzle games: Phil will look for the easiest method to beat the game but when that doesn't work for him he gets frustrated. He also lacks understanding basic game mechanics and tends to ignore or forget tutorials and in-game explanations of mechanics. This comes from his short attention span.
However, the vast majority of people are casual players with the same or even worse set of skills. It's just that Phil thinks he is one of the best players and a gift to video gaming, with a high opinion about his skills.

I believe it mostly comes from him just not playing games for fun, not taking some time to learn new mechanics, and being very impatient.

He wants instant satisfaction all around, without taking any time for improvement.
He probably could be better at games if he actually did this streaming thing entirely for fun and played games he actually enjoys so he can improve on them, rather than just trying to burn through the damn thing for bits and views.

If you observe his facecam, he has a lot of reasons for not paying attention and not getting better at the game he's playing. His head keeps moving to check if he has new donations every 10 seconds, he's fucking impatient, all that's going in his head is probably a constant alarm that screams "LOW VIEWS". Not much room to focus on whatever game he's attempting to play.
He does not give a shit, and will continue to successfuly convince retards that he's the hardest working person on the face of the earth.

From my perspective DSPig has a very narrow mindset and this sieves through his inability to comprehend intentional game design and the limits of it. He seems to think there is only one way to play games: His way, because he is a "high profile gamer" and this is also a very comforting (but stupid) mentality. Just the way he talks about every single game and is complete incapable of immersion, gives the impression he has very low expectations on videogames like they are trash in general. So every game that gives him a negative feeling: Must be broken, must be a bug, must be incompetence. Phil always wins, dood.
We all play games for different reasons (I do it to shut down a little bit) but I think Phil does it to validate himself. Or at least he gives this impression. Just look how easily he goes to the salt mines and refuses to give games or other players positive credit. How he is not able to understand that developers can't change how their players play the game (f.e. camping, jumping while shooting. Legit strategies). How he tries to cheese each situation with really stupid tactics (even if it takes hours) just because he is stubborn. How he is unable to adapt to the enemy and how every enemy win is "unearned" and how he holds up his pride when he produces at least mediocre results.
Sounds familiar? RAW gameplay best gameplay? Blocks everyone who criticizes his methods? Jumps to the treetop whenever there is even the slightest idea of changing something? It think this all goes hand in hand.

I think DSP's consistent ineptitude and inevitable failure at not only every game he plays but every possible aspect of life in general are due to his rather rare circumstances. A set of factors that make it impossible for him to ever be good at any games or anything else.
Firstly he is not intelligent, insightful, or knowledgeable about anything. He is below average in every possible way. Obviously this describes a lot of people, myself included, and it certainly doesn't mean they are bad people or doomed to be failures in life. There is a small minority of these people that are WAY below average, even less intelligent etc. Also not doomed.
Now we start getting closer to DSP. There is an even smaller minority of these people who are not only oblivious to their shortcomings but actually believe that they are above average. This is truly a recipe for constant failure. He starts to become ultra rare when you add in things like his glaring personality flaws, total lack of self awareness, utter delusion regarding every aspect of himself and his life, and the choices and life experiences that have allowed him to become who and what he is today.
He is a narcissist, a sociopath, a pathological liar, and by most people's judgment a horrible person and a complete lost cause. He is absolutely unique and fascinating. I don't believe he fails at games, or life for that matter, intentionally I believe he fails because he can't possibly succeed.

I didn't watch any of that playthrough so take what I say with a grain of salt. But from what I understand, Phil went through with the homing bullets and as many health upgrades as he could carry.
Lol hilarious the poll is a perfect 100%, but no he's only kinda good at the 2d games with the predictable cookie cutter layouts like your street fighter just watch him it's the same shit of him going for a jump into after the opponent is getting up or in MvC and DBZ fighters where it's the big tanky guy doing the same 4 hit aerial combo into a super. Apollo Creed said it best and I'll alter for context "he can play good but he's not a good player" (modified from you fight great but I'm a great fighter).

I think it's just because he doesn't pay enough attention, never tries a new tactic even when what he did 4x already isn't working, tries to rush through stuff and just a general lack of skill. Games that required thought other than "go in a straight line to the end" also used to stump him a lot but thanks to his walkthrough chat the days of him getting lost for 20+ minutes are over.
