On social media, I think they use it as a passive aggressive way to discredit things they don't like. It's probably the easiest thing they can say to influence followers into thinking that whatever thought or opinion they don't like isn't worth saying or reading.

You'll notice that they have a need to fill their lives with the latest pop dreck. They keep music or Netflix playing in the background, constantly on their laptop or phone reading or opining about something that has little to no real world impact.

It's only natural they would use boring as an insult because they abhor boredom because of what it leads to and they don't have the ability to keep themselves entertained naturally.
