Why is Tumblr good at creating lolcows? -

Also A LOT of tumblrinas have originally came to tumblr from Deviantart (aka the infamous website that was notorious for breeding major lolcows). So with that logic, it's INEVITABLE that tumblr would become the next breeding farm for lolcows.

But seriously though, in my experience, a VERY large percentage of tumblrinas were originally major weeaboos from Deviantart and that weeabooage eventually turned into SJW-bullshittery. It isn't that complicated to say the least.

About 90% of foreign Isis fighters have been recruited using the Internet mostly via social media platforms. Despite being part of a movement that wants to drag the world back to the Middle Ages they are worryingly adept at using the Internet to recruit malcontents.

I have a tumblr. Although I tend to do a 'controlled burn' of my followers who think they're super special snowflakes (ie: otherkin, pansexuals, etc.). From what I've observed on Google+, tumblr, and deviantart, it has to do with users staying within what I like to call cults. Within them, they develop these batshit mentalities, and they all develop LOLcows from how they're set up. Think feudalism, only with protecting people from some mean people online.

You know, you just reminded me of a long lasting problem deviantart had which is "don't fucking upload things that don't belong to you". With tumblr, while it's still a faux pas, people can upload works without citing them and they wouldn't give a fuck.

Connection?

You know, something's been festering in my brain after reading about all of these people:

"Why haven't the site owners caught onto the bullshit of these users?"

And I'm concerned, are we sure Yahoo! aren't full of SJWs that support this abusive behavior? I mean why haven't they taken notice about any of this. It just feels kinda wrong to have a site with little no webmasters beyond the people who run these blogs.

The number of blogs on Tumblr are probably into the millions. Given how often drama flares up on Tumblr, trying to micromanage each and every case of somebody being an asshole would be like trying to organize grains of sand on the beach by size, shape and color.

Tumblr also doesn't retain staff for very long, with most people leaving after working about a year for the company.

That's... kinda depressing really. I wonder how insane they get after reading some of those blogs on a daily basis. Still though, I'm just kinda surprised there hasn't been a purge yet all things considered.

Plenty of people have edited Staff posts to make it look like there will be blog purges for shits and giggles and almost every single time, there's people that fall for it.

Two effects at work here, IMO...

1. Tumblr is easy to use, it has a low learning threshold. Therefore, it's bound to attract people whose mental capacity is mainly occupied by Pony porn and fictious pronouns.

2. Positive feedback loop: As soon as some lolcows have gained a foothold on some social network, they are bound to attract others with similar interests. This holds in fact for any group of common interest, not just Bronies/SJW/Redpillers/etc.

I think the general consensus is that it's an echo chamber, which spurs the quick creation of a bizarre vocabulary and an equally bizarre community. I'm kind of interested in the proliferation of academic terms being used so casually on tumblr. By academic terms, I mean terms used by some social scientists and philosophers working in critical theory or general social justice, which are used in a different way than in vernacular. For example, the term 'racism', which has an academic definition in addition to how it is usually seen in the wild. You may have heard that 'racism' is 'prejudice plus power' on tumblr. From a sociology perspective and particularly a critical theory, this makes sense, at least in the United States. A black person can easily be prejudiced against white people, but they lack an institutional-level structure that allows them that prejudice to seriously affect white people on a wide scale level. Vernacularly, 'racism' usually just refers to prejudice based on race, regardless of the race of who's giving and receiving said prejudice.

So when a black SJW that shows an irrational hatred of white people (ala curvesincolor) is called out on tumblr, they (or one of their followers) backs up onto this academic definition, as if its meant to apply to personal relationships. The same goes for 'privilege', 'cultural appropriation' and a ton of other terms. So how did these terms end up on tumblr, and why are they used with wonton abandon?

I think it's an attempt at trying to sound smart, honestly. Actually using these studies and such would counter all the silliness Tumblrites are trying for, so they just chop out the useful bits and throw them out there.

As for the BYP nonsense, the way I figure, most SJW/Tumblrites have a thing about controlling others "for their own good". Forcing someone to jump through hoops before doing something as simple as following a blog is a way to enforce your will on someone. First step to being the dominant personality in a discussion.

Let me offer some sperging on this one.

I think that there's three mutually complementary roles here: anarchists, idealists, and counterculturalists (the status quo is, of course, Fapbook). Each of these three groups has a flagship site, so the anarchists gravitate towards 4chan, the idealists gravitate towards Reddit, and the counterculturalists gravitate towards tumblr.

But of course since everyone on the Internet is underage and autistic, what we get are bizarre manifestations of each of these three camps. So anarchism is now equated with posting fapping to every image possible, idealism is now a fedora-wearing circlejerk of unrealistic and self-supported ideas, and counterculturalism is the infinite invention of stupid and contradictory categories with which to identify.

Thus, in terms of importance of cultivating a good "on-site" image, the ranking is as follows:

1. Fapbook (obviously, since this is "real life")
2. tumblr
3. Reddit
4. 4chan (actually does not even rank because anonymoose and tripcodes are for fags)

It is probably not a coincidence that the latitude given in terms of what one can post/find on these sites generally goes in reverse order: pictures of people in car accidents with girders through their skulls belongs on 4chan, glib feel-good quote macros belong on Fapbook.

Therefore, although people on tumblr may or may not hold positions, beliefs, and hobbies that are more or less bizarre than any of those other communities, it falls in this narrow band where there is some limited anonymity (it's not your real name), which means that you can post things that you might not post on Fapbook, but maintaining an on-site identity is very important, so anything posted necessarily becomes an integral part of one's on-site image. The result? A whole lot of self-absorbed, self-justifying weirdness. And a lolcow is born.

I'll take those autistic ratings, please and thank you.

As a tumblr user who can't get out of the SJW/special snowflake echo chamber (but knows when and where to tune it out), I'm gonna take a second to offer my $0.02. Probably not the same two pennies that everyone else has to offer, since not everyone has quite the same experience with that place.
  • Tumblr is easy and accessible, like some of y'all have stated. It's a blogging site that doesn't take too many brain cells to use. People flock to it because it's easy and free -- as long as you're not paying for custom themes, which you shouldn't be paying for anyways.
  • Herd mentality and brainwashing kick in. Most people that I know joined tumblr for fandoms or to get their art out there (not saying this is everyone; it's just most of the people that I know). Upon doing so, you come across a lot of people who have adopted the same mindset.
  • Many people are swayed over to said mindset a mere few weeks or months after joining. This can be because said person thinks that the new mindset is more just, but there's also a fear on the site of being problematic. Of being called out. And, naturally, almost everything is problematic on tumblr. There's a strict set of guidelines on there -- especially in the SJW-infested pits of the place.
  • Lack of fact checking is not encouraged, per se, but you are encouraged to get mad on there. To be offended. You are encouraged to be offended on tumblr, because to be unaffended is to be stagnant and okay with the unjust systems of the world, and that is problematic.
  • You are rewarded for being special, burdened, and oppressed. And the more SJ points you have, the better a person you must be, right? If you're a white cis man with no disabilities who is somewhat well off? You might as well be the scum of the earth, unless you're hot and creepily lusted after by a good portion or tumblr (and even then). If you're a trans black woman with severe disabilities and are living in poverty? You've already got more power on tumblr than the white cis man.
  • People start to develop this mentality that they WANT to have SJ points. That they WANT to be special, burdened, oppressed, etc.... so they start to become that. Hence, many of the special snowflakes that can be spotted on tumblr. They look online for symptoms that they might have, and then they go about the process of self diagnosis, and BAM! Suddenly they have autism, or they're bigender demisexual spacekin. And if you call them out on their bullshit? I don't need a diagnosis the medical system is out to get people like me! Stop misgendering me, you racist truscum piece of trash!! I'm telling everyone you're horrible!
  • As someone who is seeing a psychiatrist for a myriad of problems, including gender issues and what might possibly be low-key autism (proposed by the psychiatrist, not me!), this is the worst.
  • There is nobody, save for a few (who can be blocked and ignored and slandered), who is willing to call them out on their obvious shit. Tumblr becomes an echo chamber of like-minded, angry voices. It's like a hivemind, and occasionally you'll have leaders (who are hesitant to call themselves leaders, because power is evil and leadership is bigoted privileged garbage, ya know?) like Vade (who at the height of her power was a monster) who do their best to assert their bass-ackwards influence and viewpoints and drown out everyone who disagrees. And mom's not on tumblr to tell you to stop mooing and pretending you're a cow, so the entire hivemind is free to continue on with their behavior.
  • Tumblr gives out asspats like there's no tomorrow. Having a bad day? Parents told you to wash a few dishes? Some guy you don't like told you you're pretty? Claim your life is terrible. Cry about it a bit. Use terrible grammar and all lowercase letters in a text post. Tell everyone your parents are slave-driving asswipes. Tell everyone how you were assaulted and almost raped by that privileged white guy. Open up the asspat dispenser. Suck in those "oh you poor thing how can the world be so terrible?"s. Relish them. TMI under read-mores is common, along with attention-whoring on any text post whatsoever. I have a hangnail! The world is ending!
  • Don't like something? Claim you're triggered by it. Nevermind that this makes people with actual triggers get taken less seriously. Same with gender identities, really. Tumblr makes us all look bad.
  • It's anonymous. Grandma can see your facebook posts. What grandma can't see are your tumblr posts that say how shitty Grandma's generation is.
  • Tumblr is like a power trip for the downtrodden and the mundane. It takes bad people and makes them worse; it takes good, reasonable people and turns them into part of the hivemind. I have lost friends to tumblr. I have seen reasonable people turn into misandric, white-hating special snowflakes who will stick their fingers in their ears and go "la la la la I can't hear you, you oppressive fatphobic transphobic ableist shitlord" when you disagree with them.
Eugh. There are approximately a thousand more things to add, but this is long enough as it is, and has probably repeated a lot of stuff stated in the thread. I managed to stray from the hivemind track, but it was a near miss. See previous posts about an encounter of the Vade kind.

But yeah. There's a reason I'm still on tumblr, despite all of the above. Information is spread, and even if some of it is false, quite a it of it is true -- and important (take a look at Ferguson, for example). And for me, it's actually one of the few places I'm still wholly accepted as a human being (even if there are probably countless people on there that would hate me). Plus, as someone who likes art, the art part of tumblr is invaluable.

It's a decent site. It might actually be a GOOD site. But it's a breeding ground for terrible things.

I think it's probably very easy to get sucked into the Tumblr vortex, especially since information moves so fast, and there's always new a 'kin (and 'cow) around the corner.
